ROUND 12 - MATCH RECAPS ๐๐
FOOTBALL ๐
COLTS
We got taught a lesson by a well-drilled team. Unfortunately we didn't convert our opportunities in the first quarter. Our backline was huge all day, and there were plenty of positives to take away from the game.
RESERVES
Our reserves went in as underdogs, just the way we like it. Our attack at the ball was first rate, and our use of the ball was as good as it's been all season. An all round four quarter team effort saw us knock off a quality team. We feel like our season is getting better week by week, so we cant wait for this weekend against Donnybrook.
WOMEN
It was a tough first half with neither team registering and we felt like we had a lot of missed opportunities. With a couple of magnet changes in the third quarter, straight away the great centre setup from the girls in the guts got us a forward entry. We soon had three goals on the board. The ladies then maintained the pressure to keep South Bunbury scoreless. Awesome effort from everyone. Now we look to Donnybrook who will be looking for a bit of revenge.
LEAGUE
The start of a tough month saw on focus on bringing effort and physicality, and we definitely delivered on that. Unfortunately, we lacked the finishing touches and struggled with our ball movement going forward. South Bunbury made us pay for those mistakes, with the majority of the goals coming from transition off their half-back line. While we are pleased with the intensity and effort shown throughout the game, there are still areas we need to improve as we continue through this challenging month.
NETBALL ๐
U16'S
The Under 16's went down by just 7 goals in a tough contest against South Bunbury. With none of our usual shooters available due to injury, the girls showed incredible resilience, stepping up and battling hard until the final whistle. The effort and determination displayed by the team was something to be proud of. Well done to Remy Lentjes who earned BOG for her outstanding performance in defence. Plenty of positives to take away.
U18'S
Our girls had a fantastic game over the weekend against South Bunbury at home. The girls started off really strong, knowing this would be a tightly fought game. With assistance from Nikki Scott as specialist attacking coach, the team adapted really well in the second and third quarters - resulting in a lead of 10 goals. Perri Byrne was fantastic in the mid court, gaining multiple intercepts and tips. Paige Cullinane and Eloise Ride combined really well in the shooting circle, making life really difficult for their defenders. It was awesome to see the girls take control of their game and adapt to any challenges thrown their way. All team members played very well, all playing their role with confidence and flair.
RESERVES
With three consecutive byes and the Reserves last game happening on May 17th, a month with no match play was not the best preparation to come up against top of the table South Bunbury. Apart from a poor second quarter, the reserves stood their ground against a well-drilled Souths. Down at the first break by 2 goals, the second quarter proved pivotal in the contest, as we lost that quarter by 13 goals. Going in at half time down by 15, the reserves showed grit and determination matching Souths in the second half, only to go down by 15 at the end of the game. A truly outstanding second half by the team showed that when we play to our potential, and perform our roles within the game plan, we can match it with the best. A best on ground performance from Mad Dog Pearce who never shirked a contest, and continually improves in the WD position that she has made her own. Hard running and phenomenal leadership from skipper Grace Garstone galvanised the team in the second half. A few bruises to Georgia Ride and Emily Honeysett in the shooting circle, who withstood a very physical GK. A great debut from Geo Hill who helped us out from league. She is more than welcome to help any time! Next up - another bye.
LEAGUE
Well it is good to be back on the winner's list. Coming off three consecutive Byes it's always a little unnerving how we'd cope. Testament to the ladies getting to training over this period and bringing the intensity with the hope of maintaining some form of match fitness.
We started solid but took a good part of the first quarter before we started to inject our dominance over the South Bunbury team. Our mid court was dynamite as always, Ingrid Colyer-Moss put in another solid performance directing play forward and working just as hard with defensive pressure. Keah, despite not feeling 100% put in a cracking game forcing turnover after turnover and earned herself the Mend Send BOG award. Work rate is always so high through our middies and having the ability to bring on the youthful but equally awesome Ruby and Olivia from the bench is integral to our midcourt dominance each week. Defence was dynamite again, Annabel & Holly are building connection each week, and both are playing with such confidence. Their clean pressure this week earned them both 2nd & 3rd best on. Their performance is always supported by the hard work of our Wing Defence and Anna BC also bought the pressure and got herself the weekly Hawkette Award. Geo backed up an outstanding 3 quarters in the Ressies to pop in the WD position as needed. Our shooters were solid, Shaye came back in after weeks of managing blisters before we hit the run of byes and connected well with Bec Pike. Bec continues to shine each week and both were nailing their shots. A few skill areas started to creep in when we started to tire, shooter & mid court combination changes were made to mitigate this which saw Laney (aka Princess Fiona) take the court and bring her calming but strong nature to the shooting circle. It was great to see Laney back with some confidence. We lost Shaye to those pesky blisters again and things looked a bit rocky as South Bunbury crept back within 3 goals. Ingrid filled the GA gap for a short time to allow Bec & Laney to gather themselves after being pushed out into their non preferred GA position. Thankfully we settled and broke away once again to take the win. We face another Bye this week, not ideal, but if we approach each game with the belief and the intensity then finals are possible for us.
MASTERS
The Masters team started strongly in a physical contest against South Bunbury. Strong defensive pressure from Tarnia Jovanou, Jessica Johnston, Kristi Head and Tracey Guthrie kept the opposition accountable, while Amy Smith, Hannah Della Bosca, Jasmine Cameron and Nikki Scott worked hard through the mid-court to deliver quality feeds into the shooting circle. Bronwyn Carter and Natalie Baker battled hard against a tough defensive unit. South Bunbury gained the upper hand in the second quarter and built a handy lead. Positional changes in the third quarter sparked the team, with Nat and Tarnia combining well in defence to create turnovers. Strong midcourt feeds into Bron, Nikki and Tracey helped the team match Souths goal for goal. South Bunbury finished strongly in the final quarter and proved too strong on the day. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives, with everyone contributing and continuing to build strong connections across the court. BOG Nat Baker, 2nd BOG Tarnia Jovanou & 3rd BOG Tracey Guthrie.
