After Hosting the FNQ portion of the Archery Australia Indoor Nationals and the North Queensland State Indoor Championships this morning, we experienced a sudden turn of eventsA when a local bushfire came through the club grounds, burning our Clout Range, Target Range and field Course.

All our Target Backstops in the field course were burned, an attempt was made to save the target butts, we had managed to stack 11 of them up in the middle clearing before the fire department had us make a hasty retriet. The effort was not enough though, even being slightly elevated from the really short grass, the butts still caught alight.

One of the shipping containers took some serious heat from some plastic bails that had caught fire, we managed to put that one out and save the equipment inside.

The North Queensland Field Archery Championships were going to be held at TCOA in 4 weeks time, regrettably this event will not have to be cancelled.

Over the coming weeks, we will gather our thoughts, assess the situation and look for a way to rebuild the field course ready for next years archery.

We are having a working Bee this Saturday 9th May from 7am until 12pm.
Many hands makes light work, so please if you can see your way clear to help, come along and be a part of what makes our club a great place to be.

TCOA Christmas Break Up Shoot.
Our final shoot of the year will be a field Shoot on Sunday 7th December. Come and have a go, even if you’ve jot shot field bedore. Scoring will start at 8:30am, the shoot will be followed by a BBQ Lunch and a short general meeting. I look forward to seeing you all there.

BREAKING: Compound Archery joins the Olympics!

In a historic announcement overnight, the IOC and World Archery have confirmed that compound archery will debut at the LA28 Olympic Games, with the inclusion of the compound mixed team event.

This is the first time a new bowstyle has been added to the Olympic archery lineup since 1972.

“This is a monumental step forward for archery,” said Archery Australia CEO Peter Bromley. “Thank you to World Archery and the IOC for helping bring this vision to life.”

We expect to see a strong boost in interest and participation across Australia — and we can’t wait to watch our compound archers shine on the Olympic stage.
