Tribute to the recent lose of World Master Chong Chul Rhee. My Master and Mentor.
Master Rhee came to Australia from South Korea 53 years ago. He was the founder of Tae Kwon Do in Australia and known as the father of Australian Tae Kwon Do.
Master Rhee was one of twelve original masters of Tae Kwon Do within the Korea Tae Kwon Do Association. He opened up Tae Kwon Do schools throughout Australia and New Zealand.
For the past 53 years Master Rhee has devoted his life to the art by promoting and training students throughout the country.
The Mareeba Centre opened in 1976 and I was one of the first students to start training.
In 1978 I took over the centre as instructor of Mareeba and Atherton.
Master Rhee travelled all over Australia and visited each centre four times a year promoting the art of Rhee Tae Kwon Do. To him Rhee Tae Kwon Do was the art of self defence.
He believed strongly in family, honesty and respect.
To him he had two families, one was his family and the other was his students and instructors in Rhee Tae Kwon Do.
On the Tablelands he mentored 1000s of students.
Some of these students are now bringing their children and grandchildren to train.
47 years of my life has been dedicated to Master Rhee and Rhee Tae Kwon Do.
To me he was more than an instructor, he taught me so much about discipline, life, respect and to be modest about the art.
Australia will be forever grateful for the legacy that he has created in this country.
This is a legacy that will be hard to beat.
