Pilates and Movement is a small boutique Pilates studio on the Sunshine Coast, that is dedicated to integrating the teachings and philosophies of Joseph Pilates with the musculoskeletal and neurological science of today. Owner and Head Teacher, Nadine Kent has been teaching Pilates for almost 20 years. She grew up in Coolum Beach in the 80's, dancing at the local dance school, choreographing in he
r lounge room, and annoying her brother dancing in front of the TV. At a young age she was diagnosed with a bone disease in her knee and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, so a career in dance was no longer possible. She stayed working in the Arts, and in 2000 started Pilates classes in Sydney. Through Pilates, she found her way back to dance completing a Bachelor of Dance and Education at UNSW, as well as her Diploma in Pilates Instruction. Moving home in 2006, she helped establish Polestar Pilates Education in Queensland, and worked as an Assistant Educator and Mentor, 'teacher
training' many emerging Pilates teachers. Pilates was still a small industry on the Sunshine Coast, which enabled Nadine to have a close working and learning relationship with some of our leading body-workers, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths. Through these working relationships, and also through her own path of understanding her body and its difficulties through HSD, she is an excellent ‘technician’ of movement and kinetics. Nadine has a fine eye for detail, and is very skilled in cueing and communicating how the body moves. This work was created by Juliu Horvarth, a Hungarian Ballet Dancer, who defected to the USA in the 60/70’s. His original practice was called ‘Yoga for Dancers’. In short, it is a marriage of his experiences in Yoga, in particular Kundalini Yoga, and his love of dance and movement. GYROKINESIS® classes are small group classes that explore breath, spine and joint mobility through three dimensional movement, and your relationship to space and gravity. Sitting in lotus pose is not easy for everyone, so the Level One sequence is seated on a stool for more freedom of movement, particularly in the hips and lower spine. This helps to enrich the health of the psoas muscle, our messenger from spine to ground, and also invigorate the health of the lower abdomen. It is followed by a more challenging floor sequence and standing sequence. Additionally there is the Breathing Intensive Program & the Lotus Blossom Program. Nadine is passionate about helping others discover more about their body and movement. Message us for a private initial consultation.
