It's not my turn.

It's not my turn to go where I want, when I want.
It's not my turn to put my wants and needs first.
It's not my turn to get butterflies on a first date.
It's not my turn to plan a wedding.
I've had my turn.

It's not my turn to leisurely enjoy my coffee with slow mornings.
It's not my turn to explore all of my interests and hobbies.
It's not my turn to spend my days as I please.
It's not my turn to spoil grandchildren.
Hopefully, I'll have my turn.

It’s not my turn to take a Mediterranean vacation.
It’s not my turn to maintain a luscious backyard oasis.
It’s not my turn to have abs.
It's not my turn to binge-watch Netflix when I've had a hard week.
Maybe one day I'll have a turn...or, maybe not.

But, it is my turn…
It’s my turn to have some sleepless nights.
It’s my turn for late-night snacks, so I don’t have to share.
It’s my turn to have my clothes stretched out by little hands.
It’s my turn to have fingerprints on the screen door.
It’s my turn to have Cocomelon stuck in my head.
It's my turn to do laundry. So. Much. Laundry.
It's my turn to keep romance alive amidst the routine.

But even more than that,
It's my turn to start family traditions.
It's my turn to memorize the perfect squishiness of chubby baby faces.
It’s my turn to let a popsicle make anything better.
It’s my turn to heal boo-boo’s with a kiss.
It’s my turn to cuddle and rock.
It’s my turn for park days and play dates.
It's my turn for first steps, first words, and first days of school.
It's my turn to earn my laugh lines and gray hairs.

It's my turn to soak up the beautiful, exhausting, magic of motherhood while the turn is still mine.

A few days ago while at the pool I watched a young Mama and her little daughter enter the pool area dressed in very nice coordinating swimming suits. The mom, with her perfect loose curls tied up in a coordinating scarf, spent the first few minutes talking loudly on her phone to a friend while her daughter stood waiting to get into the pool. Mom ended the phone call and proceeded to spread out pool toys and sunscreen on a matching towel. Then after finding just the right angle and the right light, Mama pulled out her tripod and took a few selfies with her daughter. Little One asked to get in the pool. Mama said wait and then posed her daughter in front the pool, then going in to the pool and then coming back out of the pool. Little one smiled big and said "cheese" like she'd done it a million times. Then Mama told her she could play. Little One walked in and swam around for a couple of minutes. Mama called a friend on her phone and began another conversation while Little One politely and repeatedly asked "Mama, can you come in the water with me, please?" She was ignored. "Mama, come play with me?" she asked 4 more times. Mama glanced over at her but never got off the phone. After 10 minutes Mama ended her call, collected the sunscreen that was never applied, the water toys that never touched the water, and then her daughter and left the pool.

I sat there thinking about what I'd witnessed for awhile afterwards. I imagined the photos she took being perfectly edited and posted to social media with a caption like "Pool time with my girly! ".

Somewhere another Mama is going to be at home with her children, the house a mess from their play, her hair unruly from a day of mothering and her clothes dirty with spit up or peanut butter. She's going to be tired because she's spent her day cooking, caring, cleaning and playing with her children. She's going to look at that photo and she is going to compare herself to the perfect Mama at the pool. The Adversary is going to whisper into her ear "you aren't good enough... You don't look like that Mama at the pool... You don't have money to buy expensive swimming suits like that and you don't have time to make memories like she is" and that young Mama is going to believe it. She's going to feel like a failure. She'll never know that how she spent her time that day was so much better in her children's eyes than that "perfect Mama" at the pool.

What we see on Social Media isn't always real. Sometimes and often it's a complete set-up. It's staged and filtered and it's counterfeit.

Sometimes we do see absolutely real photos of vacations and beautiful homes and freshly done hair but it's only ONE moment. It's the very best moment out of a whole day spent much like our own. Working, cleaning, and messes...

Mamas, don't compare yourself. You ARE enough! You are amazing and the very best part is that you are REAL! Your dirty shirt and your messy house and your happy children are real and they are proof that you are doing it right! ❤

“Yes, Carol, I had a great “break”.

It was all-inclusive- complimentary wake-up calls every 2 hours, privacy (because I didn’t go outside), unlimited padsicles…oh, a padsicle is a maxi pad you can freeze and put in your mesh underwear to relieve your va**na and perineum and absorb blood after you give birth - *almost* as refreshing as a frozen daiquiri.

You should try one on YOUR next “vacation”!”

May 5th is National Miscarriage Awareness Day. PANDA mark this day to acknowledge anyone who has been impacted by miscarriage, to remember their baby/babies.

Approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and sadly families may experience more than one loss in their journey.

Miscarriage and early pregnancy loss can impact the mental health of both parents, and PANDA support many parents who have experienced loss.

In the lead up to Mother's Day, it is important to know that this can be an emotional time for people around you.

Check in with your friends and family - we have some tips on our website about encouraging someone to share their experiences: https://panda.org.au/articles/talking-about-perinatal-mental-health

If you have done this class before and would recommend it, share it! and let your mum friends know. 🙏
Tag a mum you would like to do a class with!

💖There is no age limit for children coming to this, we embrace the chaos that can come with walkers and runners. (Minimum of 6 weeks post birth or 12 weeks post c-section birth)

💖 Dont have a suitable carrier? We have carriers here you can use if you don't have one and I am qualified to fit them to ensure you are both safe and comfortable, or I can help fit yours if it is suitable for exercise.

💖Come as you are, don't feel you need to get to certain level of fitness or wait until you have "it all together" before you register. I can adapt the class for everyone's needs.

I absolutely love teaching this class! It is such a SAFE and fun way to get moving and recovering post pregnancy and birth. It's not only the physical benefits, though, the social and mental well-being aspects are so so important as well.

It's such a privilege being a part of your motherhood journey and watching your little ones grow.

Let's Kanga!! 🦘💃👶💪

You'll be so glad you came!

ANYONE ELSE A QUEEN OF ARBITRARY RULES THAT WE MAKEUP OR ARBITRARY DEADLINES THAT STRESS US OUT THAT DON’T REALLY EXIST?
Then you will want to run the dishwasher twice. And maybe this post will relieve some unnecessary pressure today. ❤️

When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldn’t get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by.

I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week, I didn’t have much to ‘bring’ to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say.

“What are you struggling with?” he asked.

I gestured around me and said “I dunno man. Life.”

Not satisfied with my answer, he said “No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?”

I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn’t want to say it. I wanted to have something more substantial. Something more profound. But I didn’t. So I told him,

“Honestly? The dishes. It’s stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN’T do them because I’ll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can’t stand and scrub the dishes.”

I felt like an idiot even saying it. What kind of grown woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with actual problems, and I’m whining to my therapist about dishes? But my therapist nodded in understanding and then said:

“RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.”

I began to tell him that you’re not supposed to, but he stopped me.

“Why the hell aren’t you supposed to? If you don’t want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares? Rules do not exist, so stop giving yourself rules.”

It blew my mind in a way that I don’t think I can properly express.

That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times. I felt like I had conquered a dragon. The next day, I took a shower lying down. A few days later. I folded my laundry and put them wherever they fit. There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.

Now that I’m in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry. But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:

THERE ARE NO RULES. RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!
