With cooler days ahead, MWCC are considering offering a long-sleeve fleece-lined winter jacket as part of our club kit product lineup.

This will be Blackchrome's popular winter jacket that pairs with the classic jersey. Designed for temperatures down to around 5 degrees and comprises a polyester fleece knit.

We're after expressions of interest, and if we get enough interest, we'll go into production for delivery by the end of June. Expected pricing will be in the region of $180 - $190.

West Head Road Race – Race Report – presented by Blackchrome Cycling.

Typically perfect early autumn weather greeted our racers this morning, who lapped up the extra 10 minutes sleep in and still managed to all (well, mostly) finish before we had to re-open the road.

As is convention, A Grade Men were the first to depart on the four-lap journey with 20 riders taking the line. The first cross of the line saw the bunch remaining mostly together, with various riders having a dig at the front. A regroup occurred on the third lap with the bunch appearing to remain mostly together on the conclusion of the third. On the final approach Valentin Cuzzucol (Centennial Park CC) and Oliver Penney (Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club) had developed a gap of enough seconds to pretty much guarantee the final sprint was to between the two of them. And so it was, as the riders approached the finish line it was Oliver who had broken free to take the win, ahead of Valentin in second and Peter Hiotis taking the sprint for third.

We would love to give you a detailed commentary of what happened in the 45+ race, but couldn’t really pick up on much going on other than the group appearing to remain mostly intact throughout the three-lap journey. David Williams (Manly Warringah CC) took the win ahead of Otto Ruettinger with Daniel Daley (Dulwich Hill BC) in third.

Unfortunately we didn’t have enough riders in the 55+ grade but fortunately the A Women kindly let the guys race with the girls. Ever the gentleman, Nigel Dunn (Manly Warringah CC) was the perfect guest and spent an appropriate amount of time on the front driving the pack. The group remained largely intact for the three laps, with Shauna Frey (Centennial Park CC) taking the win in Women’s A ahead of Matilda Offord (Rapha Cycle Club Sydney) and Megan Chapple (Centennial Park CC) in third, with Nigel edging out Ben Bowley in the 55+ grade.

20 riders signed on for the B Men Grade, with both Matthijs Hoogendoorn and Zac Millar both signing on as rider number 20 – which is funny unless one of them ends up on the podium (foreshadowing). Ethan Huang (Randwick Cycling) and Jacob van Egmond (Peloton Sports) attacked on the first lap but on the second the bunch had come back together. No obvious gap had formed on the last cross of the start line and on the sprint it was Zac Millar (Easts Cycling Club) finishing ahead of Harlon Taylor (Northern Sydney Cycling Club) and Franco Ashenhurst taking third.

The C Grade Men started off with the B Grade women. Maria Ludden (Dulwich Hill BC) took an early jump on her competitors with the remainder of the B Grade women group remaining together. Maria managed to extend her lead from there in such a dominating display that she’s earned herself an upgrade. Maria finished well ahead of the duo of Keirly Burgess (Manly Warringah CC) who outsprinted Julia van der Veer to second.

C grade Men remained together for the first of their two laps with Ching Wo Leung going for a flyer on the last approach to the start line – but it was too much too soon as he was mowed down by the bunch with Ryan Robert (Randwick Botany CC) taking the win, Mitchel Wales (Randwick Botany CC) taking second and Tim Owen (Sydney Cycling Club) taking third.

C Grade women saw six riders sign on – all with different race numbers which really helps. Sharon Moller (Sydney CC) continued her very good West Head form and has also earned herself an upgrade, taking a large win ahead of Suzie Carruthers (Centennial Park CC) and Anne Redulla (Centennial Park CC).

The D Grade 1 lapper podium saw a see of red as Alex Maltas took the win ahead of Thomas Ellis and James Daley.

Friday HART presented by Blackchrome Cycling - Race Report by Drastique

Final HART for the season had some of the best racing this summer.

A and B were combined and set off at a cracking pace before Luciano went down after he touched Ben A's wheel on the climb to the top of the track. The bunch stopped, regrouped and restarted while Luciano was patched up. Ben F had helpfully dropped off the back by this stage so they both rejoined together. Logan was pushing the pace and for once Ryan couldn't hold wheel. He was dropped and ghosted around until he was lapped then calmly rejoined to take out the sprint with a "well he got a lap out" shrug. The commissaire decided that the circumstances were not the same and Ryan was marked as a DNF.

C grade was a cracking race with 4 riders who had won once this season vying for a second victory. We also had a a new triathlete called Tom who looked strong. After the normal 3 lap warm-up Miles put in an attack with Rory on his wheel. This lasted just over a lap before Miles returned to the bunch and an exhausted Rory slipped straight out the back. Maybe Miles was going to knock out his opponents one by one. Rory put his head down and kept the bunch in sight before finally getting back on when C slowed to let the A/B guys past. To his credit Rory then went straight to the front for a lap. With 3 to go the bunch started to get cagey, young Charlie Davis was still there spinning away, this week with Dad on the sidelines. No movement yet at 2 to go as they slowed to let A/B pass them again. Scott put in a big attack at the bell, covered by Miles then by Tom. Scott was caught by the time they got to the climb where Miles' attack was covered and countered by Tom who was then rolled by the more experienced guys down the straight with Brian coming from nowhere for his first win at HART. Brian arrived late and didn't sign the sheet so technically he is a DQ but this time the commissaire will let him take the win.

Jas Young and Rory Wheatley have finished level on points in C grade so they are required to turn up next Friday where they will start either side of the track and battle it out in a pursuit until one catches the other. The Coast 2 Toast ride will check in on Saturday morning to see how they are going.

Friday HART - Race Report by Richard "Drastique" Measures, persented by Blackchrome Cycling

For once C grade got up in the HART handicap. They set off like a well oiled machine and even though they were losing 10 seconds a lap to the chasers they still had 49 seconds with three and a half laps remaining.

Brian Wong was first to crack out of C and he sat on the back of the chase bunch for a while. Toby was next to crack but he had clearly burnt all his matches and didn't even attempt to get onto the back of the chasing bunch.

Up front Miles, Jase, Rory, Scott and Bailey were all rolling smoothly. Behind Julio was dropped and Ryan cramped which cut the fire power and meant that the C bunch would definitely make it. Eventually Angus was chasing on his own.

Up the hill for the final time Miles made his move, as he always does, and the bunch slotted into single file behind Jase expecting him to close the gap, as they always do and he normally does. But Jase wasn't falling for it this time and he let the gap open so Miles took his first HART win by several bike lengths and Jase still got rolled in the sprint.

Lowest turnout of the this season but some solid racing. Two week to go, don't miss out.

Small A and B grades resulted in a combined race which was hard on Chris Jenkins who had just moved himself up from C and Anna Briefer who had signed on for women's A grade. Simon and Logan made it hard from the start and soon all the B graders were dropped apart from Ryan Terry who followed his normal plan of holding wheels and never feeling the wind. Three made it to the sprint and it was good to see Simon get up for the win in his final race in Aus.

C grade had a DNS from Rory who somehow managed to bend his derailleur before the start. Brian Wong and Owen Chui signed on late, joined the back of the bunch after lap one then Owen slid out on the hairpin before the climb having completed just half a lap of racing. Maybe if he could have stayed upright if he had arrived in time for the safety briefing. He later remounted on Brain's bike to ride around and get used to the course for next time. Crafty and Bailey started to apply pressure on the front and Tilly Offord was forced to close several gaps. Miller Argent was looking comfortable in his first race at HART and was even countering Crafty's attacks which made it even harder for the bunch. Bailey ended up second across the line but a DNF as he took half a lap out after a chain drop in the last 3 laps. Tilly led out the last two laps for fourth across the line which upgraded to third. She then went to a quick transition to a run which meant she missed the podium photos.
