🟢🟢 FINALS BOUND 🟢🟢
We have managed to knock off a very competitive Boyup brook side over the weekend.
After a pair of players both copped fierce sprays from Captain blood the week prior, Connor Ipsen and Corey Gibellini both told the club to stick it, and have taken no further part in the competition.. not until next week anyway (we hope)
Wellsy was a late out with the missus teaching him some Pilates and yoga, and Kayne was busy saving the Country 🔥
We were up for a huge challenge and our depth was tested heavily. With not a lot of experience in chasing down totals, we won the toss and decided to send Boyup brook in to bat.
Our bowlers started really well, but some poor fielding efforts dropping 3 early catches, had the momentum right with the opposition. With the score at 3/130, Sam Vellios decided to have a spell, admitting he was more interested in watching the innings of the Bridgetown CC batsmen, (who smashed a WBCA record), rather then being apart of our own game. It wasn’t to worry us though, as it felt like we gained 3 more fielders with his absence.
In fact, with the going of Sam, we managed to take 7 for 13, to have Boyup Brook bowled out for 150 runs.
Josiah Smith bowled with some beautiful tail, taking 2/6 from 6 overs.
Brock tempra was asking questions though, as he chased tail all of Friday night only to end up passed on the pub floor. Whoops 😬
Youngster Rueben Hill took his first club wicket cleaning up the top of off, as he his putting his hand up for a finals berth.
Tempra’s 2nd spell was damaging, taking 2/1 on what was the last over of the innings.
With 151 the target, we knew if we could bat the 45 we should be in with a sniff.
Kallan Fall got us off to a fast start (yes you read that right) as he made a quickfire 20.
With the game flowing a little too easy, we may have got Big Headed which bought upon us losing 3/0 in the space of 4 balls.
Braden Gibellini wound back the clock, as he consolidated some brilliant bowling, and later went on to score a match winning 29 runs, which was our top score for the day. He definitely had a point to prove, and played one of Forestry’s better innings in recent times in some tough conditions.
Man of the match Josiah smith, came to the crease at 7/88, and played with a cool head on his shoulders. Mat Johnston eventually joined him at 8/110, and Boyup brook looked set to Roll over the top us.
The pair fought strong, and made the Indian like conditions, look very easy. MJ was robbed of his 2nd consecutive Century, on his way to 17 not out. Might I add, In his 98th game, Mat hit his first ever maximum, guiding a short pitch ball over 3rd man for 6, and hasn’t he let everyone know about it.
Smithy ended up with 27 not out, and even had a cheeky whiskey or 2 after the game to celebrate.
Photo credits are to the wonderful Jodi Johnston, hence why they are all of her husband.. who happened to batting with her actual hubby MJ at the time. 🤪
