This amazing XC season just keeps going - thanks to the ongoing inland NSW drought !

Pilots are still flying 200+kms in superb summer style conditions well into Autumn, now only limited by shorter days.

The State of Origin at Easter had event record breaking distances flown, over 100 PB's, but the only problem was the World Barbarians won ahead of Qld and NSW :-(

The first License course of the season needed early sunrise starts and late sunset finishes to avoid the stronger conditions during the mid part of the day. Smiles all round as always.

Just now over the ANZAC weekend the first ever Serial Class Racing Competition (SRS) was successfully held as a test event. It introduced a new task setting system which all the pilots enjoyed adapting to.

Its been an epic summer XC flying season so far in Manilla with dozens of local and visiting pilots of all levels breaking their PB's - often many times in a row.
The drought like conditions since December have resulted in reliable big distance flying into the sunset many days every week.
So far 9 of the top 10 biggest XC flights in Australia this season were flown from Mt Borah, with Matt Kuhns 322km west to almost Brewarrina the best. There have been 6 over 300km flights and dozens well over 200kms in most directions with big smiles seen every day.
Even the Hang Gliders have been having a cracking week for their NSW State Champs and making goals at 200kms+ away !
Of course there have been the usual amazing sunsets and a series of pilot parties to keep everyone entertained.

Lots of great flying and happy students during our Spring PG2 License course. The weather played along nicely too.
We also welcomed former student Kyle Utley to the team as he starts his pathway to become an instructor.

SLOPEFEST 2025 - PILOT NOTICE :

Mt Borah is generally closed to PG/HG Flying over the period 12-21 Sept.

The annual week long Manilla SlopeFest RC model event is coming up soon. Up to 100 RC pilots are expected to converge on Mt Borah for what is one of the largest events of its type in the southern hemisphere.

The annual Easter Paragliding State of Origin event had over 200 pilots flying at Mt Borah enjoying some fun competition and great camaraderie.

Queensland won again and are undefeated since 2016 - that's quite a winning streak !

The presentation night was bigger than ever with the inaugural "Burning Eagle" bon fire and some amazing decoration at the "Party Cabin".

The annual Paragliding State of Origin competition held over Easter has kicked off today.
Its blue skies on Day 1 making the XC a bit tricky for the over 200 pilots flying for the glory of their state.

Our first Autumn PG2 license course took a few days to get going with some wet weather at the start, but then the conditions really came on perfectly :-)
Luckily everyone could extend their stay for a few more days to maximise their learning.
Some epic early morning and sunset soaring helped to consolidate the hours. Then to top it all off a some thermalling sessions and 5km flights back to land at HQ.
Smiles, oh yes.. everywhere !

Its been a summer of great and consistent XC flying in Manilla and yesterday was a BIG one !
Congrats to all the pilots who flew PB's !!
The 300km mark was broken by 2 pilots with straight line PB flights of 339kms for Mathias Kuhn and 335kms for Bernhard Hurzeler.
Lukas Grzyb was close behind them and only just missed out on his first 300km with a flight of 291kms.
All 3 pilots almost doubled their previous PB's which is quite an achievement !!!!
The 30+ pilots on the day all flew west in moderate easterly winds with great clouds all day, via Narrabri and beyond to Walgett. The leaders landing close to Brewarrina - that's further than Manilla to Sydney !

Its been a big Spring flying season so far with our PG2 license course, thermalling clinics and dozens of XC hungry pilots on site aiming for PB's or just some fun flying.
Congrats to all our new PG2 pilots and also to regular visitor Rafael Esquillaro for his excellent 306km flight to the west of Walgett, the first big XC of the Aussie season !

Super cool video of the Olympic flame transiting the French Alps via a few adventure sports modes around Chamonix.
For the first time ever, being flown on a paraglider ! An old friend of mine, former french team member Sandie Cochepain, had the honour. Epic !
