What a journey!
In August 2021, I embarked on an ambitious vision: forming a unified ILCA6 squad with a single coach and purpose, aiming for a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Today, reflecting on this journey, I am filled with pride and gratitude for our accomplishments.
Our path was never straightforward, filled with challenges, setbacks, and lessons. Yet, our squad showed resilience, determination, and spirit.
We achieved remarkable results, including multiple second- and fourth-place finishes at world championships and Olympic events.
These achievements testify to the team's hard work, dedication, and collaboration. As coach, I am proud of our athletes, support team, and consistent performance.
I thank the Swiss Sailing Team and Swiss Sailing for entrusting me with this program.
To Maud and Anja, thank you for your confidence and outstanding performances.
Our journey was marked by rigorous training and competition, achieving personal bests and consistently performing at the highest levels. Maud's Olympic finish epitomizes our efforts and spirit.
Looking ahead, we will approach new horizons with the same commitment and excellence. Thank you to everyone involved from Swiss Olympic to sponsors, supporters and the clubs SNG and GYC with their membership. Together, we proved that vision, hard work, and unity make anything possible.
To Maud, your work is not done.
To Anja, you are on your way.
With gratitude, Mikael.

Ready for Paris 2024 🤝 Swiss Sailing Team

"United 4 Excellence" is the motto of Swiss Olympic Team for the 2024 Olympic Games. The Swiss sailors in Marseille are well-prepared and have a common goal: to end a period of more than 55 years without an Olympic sailing medal for Switzerland.

With Maud Jayet (SNG) in ILCA 6, Elena Lengwiler (SKA/GYC) in Formula Kite, Sébastien Schneiter (SNG) and Arno de Planta (CVV/SNG) in 49er, Yves Mermod (TYC) and Maja Siegenthaler (TYC) in 470 Mixed, as well as Elia Colombo (CVLL) in iQFoil, Switzerland is represented in five out of the ten classes during the Olympic regattas off the coast of Marseille.

Podium finishes at the World Championships a year ago, solid performances in other important regattas, and a spectacular victory at the Last Chance Regatta off the coast of Hyères, where the last nation quota places were at stake, have given the Swiss Sailing Team new confidence and self-assurance.

"As the umbrella organisation, Swiss Sailing is proud to have such a strong team in Marseille, including in two foiling disciplines," says Lucas Landolt, president of Swiss Sailing.

"Our Federation promotes all national sailing interests, provides necessary services to its members, and ensures comprehensive information and media work. The excellent performances of our athletes in the Olympic classes confirm our commitment in this area."

The Swiss Sailing Team delegation in Marseille will be led by team leader Christian Scherrer. Together with Marco Brunner (COO), the entire staff, and the coaches, Christian Scherrer's goal is to provide the best possible conditions:

"We have worked hard in recent years and have grown together as a team. It is now time to make the most of it."

Christian Scherrer is convinced that the starting position for the Swiss athletes in Marseille is better than it has been for a long time and that there is great performance potential. "The depth of our Olympic team is particularly impressive. The road is long, and everything must come together in the end, but the goal is clear: a sailing medal for Switzerland."

The last Swiss Olympic sailing medal dates back to 1968 – so it is high time to end this long wait and return to the Olympic podium.
