This week’s walk (Tuesday 15 September) is from Shipwreck Creek to Seal Creek. The walk along the coastal track (6 or 7km return) has a couple of small hills, but it is generally undulating and easy going. However, the final drop down to Seal Creek is steep and slippery, so have a think about whether this walk is right for you. If you don’t want to risk the steep, slippery drop, do still come along and do a safer walk at Shipwreck Creek or north-eastward in the direction of Mallacoota. Either way, it’s great walking for everyone. Bring your morning tea along to have either at Shipwreck Creek or Seal Creek.

If you’re going to Seal Creek, be prepared to cross both creeks on the beach: sometimes they can be stepped over – sometimes you need to wade. I’ll bring a small towel to dry feet which others can borrow if they want. Mind you, it's been so dry, the creeks are probably just a trickle.

As always, we’ll start by meeting near the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am to organise carpooling and depart promptly at 9:30am. No dogs please as this walk is within the national park.

Footmobiles walkers might be interested in this event during the Wild Harvest Seafood Festival. It starts at the top of the Casuarina Track (opposite the Miva) at 5pm on Friday 25 September. The event is free, but you need to register. The link is in the comments.

Join the East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority for a twilight walk and talk tour of the local area 🐨🌿🌳
Meet at the start of the Casuarina Walk (across from Mallacoota District Health & Support Service) then we will make our way to Davis Creek and on Betka Beach where we will enjoy the evening light over the water. On the return we will have a chance to observe any critters that may become more active as it gets darker, so don’t forget to bring a torch and camera 🔦 📷 🥾

This week's walk (Tuesday 8 September) is from Davis Creek Beach along Tip Beach as far as Bastion Point. Return the same way or continue into town for coffee. Low tide will be at 11:17am and the weather should be much better than today.

As always, we’ll start by meeting near the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am and depart promptly at 9:30am.

Regarding the photo, there were six swans on 'Davis Lake' the other day. It doesn't look like the creek will break through to the sea for a while yet.

An early reminder that next week's walk is from Shipwreck Creek to Seal Creek. Bring morning tea in you backpack.

This week's walk (Tuesday 1 September) is where the wildflowers are blooming. While a lot of our usual wildflower hotspots in Mallacoota have been mowed recently, there are some nice flowers between the gun club and the airport. We'll do a loop walk along a flat, but rough track.

As always, we'll start by meeting near the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am to organise carpooling and then set off promptly at 9:30. Dogs are welcome. Afterwards, we'll head back into town for coffee.

Separately, I have folders containing maps for our November trip to Porepunkah / Bright / Mt Buffalo for those joining us. If you haven't already received your folder, pop by on Tuesday to collect it.

The Footmobiles program for September is up on the notice board outside the post office. Please note that the trip to Bendoc and Errinundra National Park has been postponed until 26/27 October (regular walkers have been emailed). Instead, we will walk from town to Karbeethong Jetty on 22 September.

This week's walk (Tuesday 25 August) is a loop walk along local bush tracks between Betka Road and the Waste Water Treatment Plant. The track is mostly flat, with a couple of gentle hills and should take about an hour.

We'll begin as usual by meeting near the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am to organise carpooling and then set off promptly at 9:30. We'll then drive to the entrance to the tip on Betka Road and park on the verge there off the road. Afterwards, we'll head back into town for coffee.

We had planned to visit the Waste Water Treatment Plant, this week, but we now need permission to do so and I hadn't got around to organising it in time. Hopefully we can go another day.

This week’s walk (Tuesday 18 August) is along Sheep Station Creek Track. This is a mostly flat 4km track between Premier Track and Pipeline Road (which is an extension of Watertrust Road). As Premier Track is a bit rough, it’s best handled by 4WD.

As always, we’ll begin by meeting near the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am and try to depart promptly at 9:30am. From there, we’ll carpool to the intersection of Premier and Sheep Station. We’ll have a car or two at the Pipeline end of the track to help ferry people back to their cars or into town.

While there's been a lot of mowing in Mallacoota recently, the wildflowers at the north end of Sheep Station Creek Track are looking magnificent.

This week's walk (Tuesday 11 August) is a day trip to Eden.

We will start as usual by meeting near the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am and set off at 9:30. Out of towners can meet us at the corner of Genoa Road and the highway at about 9:50. From there, we will drive to the Rusty Plough Cafe, Eden, for morning tea.

The Rusty Plough is at 76 Imlay Street on the corner of Barclay Street - turn left at the roundabout and it's about 850m on the right.

After morning tea, we'll drive to the Mary MacKillop Museum at 86 Calle Calle Street (corner Chandos Street). From there, Anna will lead us on a walk to Aslings Beach, after which we'll stop for lunch. You can either bring lunch with you from home or buy it at the Rusty Plough.

Should be a fun day. Hope to see you there.

This week's walk (Tuesday 4 August) is the Casuarina and Heathland Tracks to the Betka picnic area. This is one of my favourite walks and is a good one to experience different ecosystems in Mallacoota: forest, heathland, dunes and beach.

As usual, we will start by meeting at the tennis courts behind Foodworks at 9:15am. At 9:30, we'll set off on foot to the start of the Casuarina Track opposite the Miva – although some may wish to drive and park there. We'll have a couple of cars already parked at Betka to help shuttle walkers back to town for coffee.

Just a reminder that next week's walk is a day trip to the Eden area. More details will be emailed to regular walkers.
