The Hinterland Range Wimbledon Day for 2026 was held at the courts on Sunday 12 th of July on a perfect sunny day. All four courts were full with 32 players non-stop for 4 hours.
We saw some great tennis close up while enjoying scones, jam and cream plus gourmet sandwiches, strawberries and
cream all washed down with Pimms to finish the evening off. Players from across the Hinterland Range enjoyed the welcoming Maleny hospitality.
The next big day will be at Landsborough for the US Open event on Saturday September 12 th .

They say it takes a Village to raise a child... maybe the same can be said about a tennis club !! MTC latest additions are 2 new refurbished shelters for our 2 members only courts.

It started with an idea to give our members shade from the sun and shelter from the rain. This then progressed to a request to our local member Winston Johnston who then spoke to the Sunshine Coast Council who then donated and delivered 2 retired bus shelters for us to use. They arrived in a bit of a state so a collective of members stripped the old cladding and timber, prepared and repainted the frame, installed new colour bond cladding, timber seats and with the help of the Maleny Mens Shed we welded new castors onto the base of the shelters to make them movable.

Result : possibly the best looking refurbished bus shelters on the Sunshine Coast (in our opinion)

A new term of coaching is about to begin and Helen still has some available spots in her adult training sessions. Hurry as they wont last long. If you had ever thought of having some lessons again, you won't find many better coaches than Helen so what are you waiting for...

Were you one of the lucky families that used your FairPlay voucher at the MTC in the last year? If not make sure you don't miss out next year. The round opens in August, and for those of you that don't know about the scheme, you simply apply for a voucher of $200 for each and everyone of your children and you can use it at any of the registered providers who are committed to getting children playing sport. Use your voucher to gift you children lessons with one of the Sunshine Coasts best coaches, Helen Parsons, and cover your childs yearly membership. Of course the voucher can be used by existing and new families to the club. We just love seeing our courts full of energy !!!

The Queensland Government is delivering cost of living relief for Queensland families and helping keep kids active, with $200 Play On! sport vouchers.

THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE.... well that's what we at the MTC thought a couple of years ago when we decided to make court hire on 2 of our courts free for all members and visitors. Since then hundreds of free hours of tennis has been enjoyed and it has been great to the courts used in this way. However all good things come to an end !! Our costs as a club keep rising and we are determined to keep our membership costs low so get in quick and enjoy the last month of free tennis. From July 1st 2025 we will start charging a modest fee again for court hire. We will still continue to provide free request and balls on court 2 for those in need. See you all court side.

Our club Treasurer Ross Doherty was surprised that he had to travel all the way to Kooyong Tennis club to get a dry sunny day to play tennis. Having grown up in Melbourne, Ross used to think that it was cold and wet a lot of the year. Now living in Maleny, Ross is growing a greater appreciation for the word "Wet"....

FUN FACT people who play "racquet sports" have the best longevity outcomes for a healthy long life than all other sporting groups. Some say it is the lack of head impacts, the continued use of hand eye coordination to stimulate the brain and the fact that you can continue playing far longer than most sports as the main contributing factors. We here at the MTC agree, but also feel that the cake and coffee that is on offer at our social tennis sessions might play a role in it as well. We have social tennis on Mon, Wed Thursday and Friday, events throughout the year, as well as coaching sessions available daily. So if the cake and coffee aren't enough, know that we are also the best value membership in town (as voted by our members)...
