Why it’s important to do Pilates in Winter! ❄️
When it’s cold we tend to want to stay indoors and do very little, but actually Winter is the MOST important time to keep active and Pilates is the ideal exercise. Why?
1) Boost the immune system:
Winter is a time when we are under more pressure with bugs and viruses. Pilates stimulates the immune system and lymphatic nodes to get rid of toxins.
2) Avoid the winter blues:
It’s easier to be more affected by lower mood and a sense of isolation when it’s cold and dark with less social activity. Doing Pilates group classes builds a sense of community, triggers endorphins in the brain and helps us stay motivated.
3) Increase circulation:
When it’s cold, it takes more work for the heart to pump oxygenated blood. Pilates helps to get our circulation going and alleviates pressure to the heart.
4) Beat the bulge:
Winter can be a time of slower metabolism and comfort eating. Pilates stabilises appetite and keeps the metabolism ticking.
5) Regulate body temperature:
In the cold our bodies have more difficulty in keeping warm. When we stimulate the immune, lymph and circulatory systems, we also improve our body temperature enabling us to handle the cold.
6) Prevent stiffness:
The cold can cause joints and muscles to stiffen and become painful. Pilates gets the joints and muscles warmed up, strengthening them and improving flexibility. This can assist with injury prevention and general mobility.
