50+ years of Taekwon-Do. Still training. Still competing. Still inspiring. 🥋🏅

Meet Mr Dickmann: chiropractor, lifelong Taekwon-Do practitioner, South Australia ITF Taekwon-Do instructor, active competitor and champion many times over.

His example carries a powerful message: you’re never too old to keep learning, challenge yourself and set a new goal.

In this video, he encourages more older adults to take part in Taekwon-Do competition, embrace the challenge and enjoy the friendships along the way. His enthusiasm reminds us that every stage of life holds opportunities to grow.

Courtesy. Integrity. Perseverance. Self-control. Indomitable spirit.

Mr Dickmann brings these values to life, inspiring people of all ages to stay active, healthy and positive. His commitment encourages others to believe in themselves and take their own first step.

Thank you, Mr Dickmann, for leading by example and helping build a stronger, more connected community. A true legend and an inspiration to us all. 🙌

🎥 Watch his story and share it with someone who needs a little encouragement. Whether you’re starting, returning or preparing to compete, your next chapter can begin in the Dojang.

Want your child to be fit and active while still having fun? Want your child to learn new physical and mental skills? Want your child to take risks and try new things while still being safe?

Taekwon-Do offers all of these and more!

With us, your child can enjoy and engage meaningfully and effectively with an enduring legacy and from a young age get into good habits that will keep them flexible, healthy, and spry well into and through old age and that they will want to get into for their own leisure and pleasure.

Taekwon-Do will also keep their mind sharp as they learn the spirit of Taekwon-Do, remember patterns, and prepare step-sparring and self-defense, all of which strengthen neural pathways and delay onset of dementia in later life.

As your child advances into senior ranks, they not only develop their martial art prowess, but also their leadership, communication, and mentorship as they increasingly become role models for their juniors. Taekwon-Do is an opportunity for your child to become a well-balanced and well-rounded individual because they learn how to demonstrate and explain their knowledge in both individual and group settings, act with self-control, respect for self and others, and integrity, and co-operatively make informed decisions, all while under the guidance and support of their instructor. These vital and integral skills will remain with them outside of the Dojang and into their classrooms, homes, and the outside world as they grow their confidence, sense of self, and collaboration skills.

Here at South Australia ITF Taekwon-Do, we value community; when you do Taekwon-Do, it is not merely exercise, but a chance to build and join a tightknit family of like-minded individuals. Many testimonies from our members show that they feel part of a larger Taekwon-Do family with us and Taekwon-Do lets you make connections that last a lifetime and exist even outside of Taekwon-Do training. Not only are milestones and achievements celebrated together, but the strongest of storms are weathered together too, all while working to achieve a common goal of improvement and development. When we act as one, we can do anything if we set our hearts and minds to it.

Two weeks ago Australia had the privilege of competing at the ITF Open in China. It was an excellent opportunity to not only display Australian talent, effort, and skill but also to grow, learn, and develop physically, mentally, and spiritually alongside others on an international stage. We couldn't be prouder and happier with Australia's performance and involvement and look forward to reaching new heights.

Australia’s One Legacy International Taekwon-Do Federation proudly attended the 2026 Suzhou ITF Open, organised by Master Ye. Our delegation of 15 people, including 8 competitors across junior and senior divisions, achieved outstanding results with Grand Champion titles, gold, silver and bronze medals in individual patterns and sparring events.
Our Australian team was also honoured to perform a Taekwon-Do demonstration during the opening ceremony. The competitors displayed excellent technique, strength and spirit, impressing the audience while proudly representing the quality of Australian Taekwon-Do on the international stage.
Beyond the medals, we are especially proud of the respect, courtesy and sportsmanship shown by every member of our delegation. New friendships were formed with Taekwon-Do practitioners from around the world, creating memories and connections that will continue long after the competition.
A heartfelt thank you to Master Ye and the organising team for their incredible hospitality, warm welcome and wonderful event. We are grateful for this unforgettable opportunity to compete, learn, perform and represent Australia together. 🥋🌏

A new belt is an exciting achievement, but the greatest reward is the person a child becomes while earning it.

The real progress appears when they attend class even when they feel tired, accept correction without giving up, help a beginner, or continue practising after making a mistake. Through these moments, children develop perseverance, humility, respect, self-control, and responsibility.

Taekwon-Do also teaches that physical strength must be guided by good judgement. Self-defence is not about looking for a fight. It is about awareness, protecting personal boundaries, avoiding unnecessary conflict, and using skills responsibly.

Children will not make the right choice every time. Good character grows when they recognise mistakes, learn from them, and return determined to improve.

A belt shows achievement. Character shows what that achievement truly means.
