Summer 2026/27 Domestic Team Selection night 🏀

This Tuesday we will be holding our domestic team selection night at 6:30 at the stadium.

Our squad coaches will be on hand to select the teams and if any domestic coaches would like to come and help, they are more than welcome.

With under 10 squads being finalised this week, we are looking forward to another exciting season ahead for all our teams.

Merchandise orders 👕🩳

We will be shortly making a merchandise order for the upcoming squad season.

We have some merchandise available for players to try on so please ask the front desk if you need to size up.
Note there are different sizes and both male & female cuts of both the training and casual shorts.

Cut off date for orders is Sunday, September 6th ‼️

If you are a new player or didn’t play over our Winter season but would like to sign up for our Summer season beginning in Term 4, please fill out the form in the link below to ensure we don’t miss you when teams are selected.

Junior Skills Sessions 🏀

Our program for beginners will return this Thursday August 20th for 4 weeks this term.

If your child is registered from last term, there is nothing for you to do. If they are joining for the first time, they must be registered on the link lower in the post.

Aimed at those aged 5-8 that haven’t started playing games.

🏀 Sam Whelan & Eltham Wildcats advance to NBL1 South Grand Final

Congratulations to one of our own, Sam Whelan, and his Eltham Wildcats on advancing to the NBL1 South Grand Final this Saturday!

Saturday night’s Preliminary Final was a memorable one for Sam, with Eltham overcoming Nunawading by just two points in overtime to book their spot in the Grand Final, while Sam also celebrated his 250th senior game for the Wildcats.

Two years after winning the 2024 Championship, the Wildcats return to the big stage this weekend, taking on the Frankston Blues.

It was a fitting way to mark an incredible milestone for Sam, who began his Wildcats journey as an Under 16 player and has gone on to captain the senior men for the past five seasons. A fantastic achievement that reflects the dedication and commitment he has shown to the club over many years.

In good news for us, Sam will be back in the Maffra Eagles colours this October, returning to our Men’s CBL team for the upcoming season. 🦅

For now, all eyes are on Saturday!

Good luck to Sam and the Eltham Wildcats as they take on Frankston in the NBL1 South Grand Final!

Maffra Basketball is excited to welcome three fantastic additions to our program, helping us continue to grow and support our players, coaches and referees.

🏀 Byron Sandeman joins us as our Performance Pathways Coach, where he’ll work closely with our coaches to help players build the skills and knowledge needed to progress through Basketball Victoria pathways.

🏀 Leanne Gallatly comes on board as our Mentor Coach, providing support and guidance to our coaching group while also being a trusted point of contact for coaches and squad families throughout the season.

🏀 Pam Brasher takes on the role of Referee Coordinator, leading the development of our referee program and helping officials build the skills and confidence to officiate at domestic level, local tournaments and Basketball Victoria events.

These new roles are another step forward for our association as we continue investing in the development of everyone involved in Maffra Basketball. We’re thrilled to have Byron, Leanne and Pam step into these roles and can’t wait to see the impact they’ll have.

2026 CBL coaches & Player Registration

Maffra Basketball is pleased to announce our 2026 CBL coaches.

CBL Men
Kelly Burgiel will take the reins of the men’s side this season after coaching within our junior boys program for the last decade, bringing great experience to the group.
With a settled lineup and plenty of finals experience, our men will be looking to improve on their Semi-Final finish from 2025.

CBL Women
After 5 seasons of coaching the men’s team, James Whelan will head coach the women’s side this season looking to push back towards the finals picture once again.
After a season of close losses to the top sides, showing they are not far off finals, our women will be aiming for a top 4 finish when they bring back their main core while also adding in more of our junior athletes into the program.
