This week we take a look at someone who could actually pass themselves off as a traditional Viking warrior, Sean Corrigan!
Sean has been at Vikings for 18 years now, and has racked up over 350 games in green, as well as being a regular at Skins and Pan Pacs tournaments and the odd Worlds Masters. Sean has been our resident groundsman for longer than many people have even been at the club, he has also occasionally dabbled at coaching and has contributed for a long time on the committee.
Sean rates his greatest sporting achievement as being part of a Division 1 team that won back to back premierships (this was before most of our current Division 1 players were even born) and many of the older Vikings first memory of Sean is as an opponent, where he had a reputation as being "fairly competitive".
Outside of softball Sean is a strong supporter of the Australian Cricket Team and the no-longer-Oakland-but-about-to-be-Vegas Athletics. He loves Japanese cuisine (and beer) but his other true passion is music, always bringing the tunes with him wherever he may go. He loves a live show with Nick Cave, Boy and Bear with Cloud Control being recent highlights. He also tinkers with an old HG he has at home, loves getting away to the Gold Coast and rates his recent trip to Shark Bay very highly.
For his favourite softball memory Sean talks about when he first came to Vikings, and being made to feel so welcome and a part of the club from day 1. It probably helps that he also won another premiership that year. When we asked Sean what he most enjoyed about being at the Vikings he replied “I feel at home here, part of a big, mostly happy, slightly dysfunctional family."
So next time you come off the diamonds (remember to rake the cutouts inwards, not outwards) spare a thought for the groundsman and bring him over a nice cold -196.
