Cross Country-

Athletics West has recently released the dates for the upcoming winter season. The first cross country event will take place on Saturday, 23rd May, followed by the first road walking event on Saturday, 30th May.

Locations for all cross country and road walking events will be announced in due course. Please note that if your child was registered for the summer season, there is no need to re-register for winter. They will continue to use their current bib, as their registration covers both seasons. There may be a $10 entry fee per competition.

Please keep an eye out for updates via the Athletics West Winter Hub for further information about the season. A reminder also that registration is required prior to each event, before the competition cut-off time.

Congratulations to Gabby and Tory on their outstanding performances at the Australian Athletics Junior Championships in Brisbane this week. Gabby competed in the U14 3km Race Walk, finishing 8th with a huge personal best, while Tory delivered an exceptional performance in the U16 Girls 3km Walk, placing 4th. Both girls showed incredible sportsmanship throughout the competition, supporting others and representing themselves with pride. A phenomenal effort — we are incredibly proud of you both! ⭐️⭐️

FIRST LOCAL SPORTING STARS ANNOUNCED

A huge congratulations to Dawn and Gabrielle for being named our first Local Sporting Stars for 2026! And on behalf of all local sporting clubs: thank you for everything you do!

Dawn is the backbone of Gosnells Soccer Club: she’s the first one in each day, and the last to leave. Dawn sets up the canteen, manages the bar, runs club functions, and tallies takings for the Treasurer each night. Every week she’s there for the club and community at Thursday trainings, weekend matches, and even public holidays.

Gabrielle has been the heart and soul of Maddington Little Athletics for over 20 years. Gabrielle trains and mentors kids five days a week, volunteers at weekend comps, and was even coaching the day before welcoming her baby in February! A true community champion.

Dawn and Gabrielle were celebrated in The West Australian this morning. They will each receive a $400 voucher and will go into the running for the Local Sporting Star of the Year award for a personal prize of $1,000, along with $2,500 in funding for their sporting club!

The Local Sporting Stars program is about recognising these incredible contributions and I encourage anyone who knows a standout volunteer to nominate them now.

What an outstanding and unforgettable 2025/26 season MLAC has delivered!

Led with pride and passion by our incredible MLAC club captains Jackson, Jayde, Kade and Shabia, our club achieved remarkable success across the board. We proudly brought home the Overall GDLAC Centre Club Trophy, Overall GDLAC Centre Walks Trophy, Overall GDLAC Centre Multis Competition Trophy, and the Overall GDLAC Handicap Trophy — a true testament to the strength, depth and determination of our athletes.

Our junior stars shone brightly, with Grayson and Lucy taking out the GDLAC Junior Trophies in the boys and girls categories, while Elizabeth dominated to secure Overall GDLAC Senior Girls. A special congratulations to Scarlett, a deserving recipient of the Judyth Watson Sportsmanship Award, recognising her exceptional character and spirit.

These achievements reflect more than just results — they represent commitment, resilience, teamwork and heart. To our dedicated coaches, tireless volunteers, and supportive parents, thank you for the countless hours, encouragement and belief you pour into our athletes. Because of you, our club continues to grow, thrive, and go from strength to strength.

Day Two of the Fuel to Go & Play Little Athletics WA Junior Team Challenge was absolutely incredible. We are so unbelievably proud of our MLAC athletes and the way they represented our club and centre.

The day was filled with personal bests, determination, and fantastic performances across all events. Our athletes gave their all, pushing themselves to achieve PB after PB, while also securing a number of impressive top-five placings. It was wonderful to see their hard work from the season come together on such a big stage.

What stood out most was the attitude of our athletes. The smiles, encouragement for their teammates, and outstanding sportsmanship shown throughout the day truly reflected what Little Athletics is all about. Every athlete competed with heart, resilience, and pride in wearing the GDLAC colours.

Well done to all of our athletes. You represented MLAC and GDLAC with incredible determination and spirit, and we could not be prouder of each and every one of you. ❤️💛💙
