The Sydney Ice Dogs entered the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2002 as the West Sydney Ice Dogs. The club was formed by Jon Wilson and his son Anthony Wilson, who also Captained the club in its Inaugural year. It was not quite enough to make the Final. The Dogs didn't have to wait to long for some success. In 2003 the Dogs to the Newcastle North Stars 4-1 in the final of the Goodall Cup. T
he club didn't need to wait to long to extract revenge. 2004 seen the Dogs win their first Cup disposing of the North Stars 3-1. Once again in 2008 it was heart break for the Dogs losing to their nemesis from the North once again in the Final 4-1
In 2009 the Ice Dogs dropped "West" from their title and became simply the Sydney Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs did not make the final this year and followed it up with another poor season in 2010. The Dogs slowly rebuilt, finishing 3rd in 2011 and 2nd in 2012. In 2013 after 11 long years the Dogs got to taste Goodall Cup victory again. And you guessed it, Newcastle were the victims. The Dogs winning 6-3 after an amazing season where they also claimed the H Newman Trophy for finishing Minor Premiers. In 2014 the Sydney Ice Dogs finished 4th in the league, and after a tough season in 2015, they finished last.
2016 looks to be a great year for the Dogs, with fresh imports, passionate rookies, and veterans all coming together to create a dynamic team with their sights set on the Goodall Cup.
