With the New Moon on Monday night and the water temperatures continuing to cool, now is a great time to get a crab pot in the water. Reports of quality mud crabs are still coming from most local systems, with Murray Creek, Black Rock Creek and Plane Creek all worth a look.
With the larger tides this weekend, make sure to secure your pots properly. Either tie your ropes off to a tree or loop your float around a sturdy branch, as the strong run on the night tides can easily result in a lost pot.
Another option is to target whiting, blue salmon or bream. The evening run-in tides should produce some good opportunities in Sandy Creek, Murray Creek and the Pioneer River.
If youβre heading to Sandy Creek via the Dunrock Boat Ramp, remember to allow around 3Β½ hours for the tide to move enough water over the sand flats before access improves. Also, if youβre fishing after dark, ensure your boat is fitted with the correct navigation lights.
ποΈ Beach anglers should find some protection from the southeasterly winds at Shoal Point, Bucasia Beach and Seaforth, particularly to the right-hand side towards Seaforth Creek.
π£ The South Harbour Wall continues to produce a mixed bag. Early mornings have seen anglers land longtail tuna and school mackerel on lures, and there are signs that the first Spanish mackerel may start showing up.
Those fishing live pike have been reporting giant trevally and golden trevally during the day, while night sessions have produced the odd cobia and fingermark. There have also been a few squid caught, adding some variety to the seafood basket.
Letβs hope we see a break in the showers soon and get a chance to enjoy some better conditions.
Good luck on the water and stay safe! π£
