Plenty of strong individual performances, valuable experience and some great cricket across the opening two days of competition.

🔥🏏 THE GBR RAYS ARE READY TO LIGHT UP BRISBANE! 🏏🔥

A huge week of junior cricket is underway as our Great Barrier Reef Rays junior teams head to Brisbane for the 2026 Century Cricket Competition! 💚💛🌊

The Rays will be proudly represented across six age groups:

🏏 Under 12
🏏 Under 13
🏏 Under 14
🏏 Under 15
🏏 Under 16
🏏 Under 18

It’s a fantastic opportunity for our young cricketers to test themselves against quality opposition, build friendships, gain valuable representative experience and proudly represent the Great Barrier Reef Rays on the big stage.

A massive congratulations to every player selected, along with our coaches, managers and support crew who have helped get the teams ready for the tournament. 👏

To all of our players — back yourselves, enjoy the experience, compete hard and represent the Rays with pride! 💪🌊

We also acknowledge the families travelling to Brisbane and the many sponsors and supporters who continue to make representative opportunities like this possible.

It all comes down to Sunday as the GBR Rays return for the final day of the Century Champions Mackay! 💚🖤

The Next XI gets the day underway with a huge Semi Final against the Rockets. The boys enter as the underdogs, but finals cricket brings a new opportunity — one big performance could book a place in the Grand Final! 🔥

Then at 12:30pm, the Elite XI takes on the Pirates in its final match of the tournament, determined to finish the weekend with pride and a strong performance.

Not the result we were hoping for in Game 4, with the GBR Rays Elite XI going down to the Western Chargers in a tight contest.

The Rays were dismissed for 107 in 16.4 overs, before the Chargers reached 6/109 in 16 overs to claim the win.

🏏 Raveesh Srivastava — 27 from 19 balls
🎯 Steve McGiffin — 3/11 from 4 overs

Unfortunately, the result means the Rays will miss out on a place in the Grand Final.

There is still one more game to play, and the focus now shifts to finishing the tournament the right way — with pride, energy and a strong team performance.

🟢 IMPROVEMENT SHOWN — NOW FOR THE SEMI FINAL 🟢

A much-improved performance from the GBR Rays Next XI this afternoon against the Western Chargers, with the young Rays showing plenty of fight ahead of tomorrow’s semi final. 💚🖤

The Chargers posted 5/191 from 20 overs, before the Rays responded with 9/141, with some encouraging individual performances along the way.

🏏 Etienne Pretorius — 45 from 27 balls
🎯 Connor Muller — 2/15 from 3 overs

The result may not have gone our way, but the signs were much better and the boys now have another opportunity tomorrow.

The Next XI head into the semi final as the underdogs — but finals cricket is a different game.

Not the result the GBR Rays Next XI were chasing against the City Pirates, with the Rays dismissed for 52 before the Pirates completed the chase at 2/56.

There were still some determined individual efforts:

🎯 Callum Strydom — 1/14 from 1.5 overs

🟢 CLOSE, BUT NOT CLOSE ENOUGH 🟢

The GBR Rays Elite XI have fallen short against the undefeated Rockets in a hard-fought top-of-the-table clash.

The Rays posted a competitive 6/177 from 20 overs, led by captain Mitch Doolan, who produced an excellent 65 from 44 balls.

The Rockets completed the chase at 5/178 in 18 overs, despite there being an opportunity that the Rays could have caused an upset during the match after the Rockets got off to a strong start.

Not the result we wanted, but the competition is far from over. The boys now regroup, reset and prepare for another important match later today.
