Sifu Paul Otis was very pleased to award Theo , our youngest student, a Grade 5 in SCVT. Theo is picking up the system very well and building into a skilled VT practioner. Theo is a good listener, and a great do'er - seeing him achieve the highest mark recorded for SCVT on a grade 5. Well done Theo, Well done Sifu!

Sifu Paul Otis does a detailed explanation for George (who visits us from Melbourne) of the 3 JAAM's. At SCVT - there a number of pillars in how we apply the system. This video highlights light springy forward force that we use to read (own) the opponent - so when we connect we stay connected. The JAAM's are important and their differences are pretty amazing. Check this video out and let us know your thoughts

A great night of training at South Coast Ving Tsun tonight. Students at the Beginners level to intermediate were taught new concepts that progressed to some drills and horizontal chi sau. The more advanced students did chi sau and laap sau concentrating on structures and correct application of the concepts. Plus we had a good chat and a few laughs under Sifu Paul Otis instruction

South Coast Ving Tsun see when in contact with an opponent - stay connected. Connect via elbox connection "reading or feeling" what the oppponent is doing. This is how we feel/sense and exploit an opponents weaknesses in their structure or hip force.

Sifu Paul chi sao's with George and then Pete. Paul tweaks a couple of entries from George - and then shows how to follow the force with relaxation and skeletal structure - as Pete tries to defend (and gets blown away in the training method we use - i.e. replace "hots" with relaxed structures, forward 'driving' force - that mimics a "hit" without the physics that deliver damaging force to training partner.

At our recent SCVT mini Seminar at the End of Sept 2025 - Sifu Paul explored the importance of relaxed forward force on the opponent - even when "crushed".. The answer is a Kwan Sao. In slow motion and normal speed.

SCVT rely on relaxation to be able to sense and react to an opponents forces coming at you. Small adjustments to hips, turning on the hip flexors, and forward force are the answers to attack and defence. Here Pete and Theo demonstrate

Sifu Paul Otis providing an insight into the value of the Wooden Dummy in this video. It was unscripted, off the cuff, but captures the importance of the Jong, and how we test our application of the system on this amazing "feedback" device. Its a great insight to how we continue WSL legacy in keeping the system and our applications of the system relevant.

Sifu Paul Otis talks about why South Coast Ving Tsun (SCVT) value the wooden dummy so much and how we like tobghet the "jong" to give us feedback. SCVT base...
