A giant Fitzroy River barramundi, a perfectly executed cast, and an unforgettable battle delivered Tommy a new personal best barra and launched Team Samaki to victory in the first-ever Samaki Saltwater BARRA Open. 🏆

We have officially crowned Team Samaki (Josh Lowry and Tommy Wood) as the winners of the first ever run Samaki Saltwater BARRA Open held on the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton, QLD this weekend.

The boys had an epic day two landing a PB-worthy 130cm barra that registered at 38.02kg to seal the win.

In the final hours of the Samaki Saltwater BARRA open we finally got what what we came here for - 130cm of Fitzroy River silver!

Team Samaki shoot to the top of the leaderboard with this one.

We’re on the Fitzroy River for the final session of the 2026 Samaki Saltwater BARRA Open.

We know this river has this fish that are keeping all teams in contention for the $5,000 cash first prize. A couple of the BIG BARRA this river has become famous for will have teams shooting up the leader board.

What the leaders are saying after Day 1 of the Samaki Saltwater BARRA Open.

Session one on the Fitzroy River is wrapped up for the Samaki Saltwater BARRA Open - and it's still anyone's to win!

Leading the charge is Team 'The Mondymen' (Scott Bretag & Sam Rowley), who landed just three barra but made them count in a big way, posting a massive 24.49kg to take the lead.

Team Edge Rods (Craig Griffiths & Tait Griffiths) sit in second place with a full bag of five fish weighing 18.18kg, keeping themselves well within striking distance heading into the final session.

Rounding out the top three is Make Rats Great Again (Mitchell Anderson & Jake Fielder), who also filled their five-fish limit for 15.36kg and remain firmly in the hunt.

With big tidal-water barra proving difficult to find but capable of changing the leaderboard in an instant, nothing is settled yet. One big fish could be all it takes to shake up the standings when teams hit the water again tomorrow.
