Difficult conditions greeted sixteen shooters this week, two of whom were visitors from Bathurst RC and five from Katoomba RC. Those souls keen enough to take up the challenge had to contend with strong variable winds and in the second stage, even the odd squall or two as well.

In FSA Brett Bond lead the charge scoring a 54-03 followed by Ray Berger with a 52-03 with the rest of the field struggling along behind that. In the second stage Ray Berger continues to shine with his shiny new Barnard shooting a 56-03. Jeff Luck who was not at all happy with his first stage pipped Ray at the post in his second stage shooting a very credible 57-01. John Burns scored 56-01 in his second stage to also be in contention for the off rifle win. In the end Ray did enough winning 108-06 followed closely by John Burns on 107-03

FSB had three shooters with only two finishing up. Lyndal McCarthy suffered from some ammo issues during her first stage and had to retire leaving Dave Berger and Nathan Hoch to duke it out for the honours. Nathan scored 48-01 to Dave’s 39-00 and then Nathan followed that up with a 53-03 to Dave’s 42-01 meaning Nathan took the FSB off rifle honours with 101-03 and also the weekly handicap prize being the only shooter to score 100 using all his handicap.

Target Rifle had 4 shooters taking on the challenging conditions with Katoomba visitor Rob Logue coming out on top scoring a 94-08 and Bathurst visitor Graeme Bright coming in just behind on 93-06.

Peter Mackay from Katoomba RC shooting in F Class Open found the going at Lithgow a little tougher than he has seen on his previous visits carding a 51-02 and 54-05 giving him the winning FO score of 105-07

Jeff Eppleston from Bathurst RC and Jonathan Smallhorn from Katoomba RC went head to head with Jeff showing why he is an Australian F Class rep shooting a very impressive 56-02 and 57-04 in very difficult conditions. Jonathan Smallhorn who is a junior had a red hot attempt at keeping up with Jeff and carded a credible 53-02 and 55-02.

Next week we can only hope for better weather as we tackle the difficult 700yard range.

On a blustery Saturday afternoon 14 brave shooters took to the 700yard mound.
In Target Rifle John Baxter went into the first stage not entirely confident with his setup and shot on uncharacteristic 40.01. In FSA Adrian Holder took an early lead in the first stage shooting an impressive 56.02 to give him the lead going into the second stage. With the weather improving as the afternoon went on Bernie Doohan came out in the second stage shooting a stage winning 59.04 with Adrian Holder following closely behind shooting 58.04. This week was the first week in the Masters series for this shooting year and we saw some excellent shooting in this competition. Ben Ferrara and Joshua Ferrara slugged it out in F-Class Open with Ben taking a narrow lead in the first stage posting an 89-09 to Joshua’s 88-06. In the second stage Ben shot another very good 89-06 meaning Joshua had to shoot a possible with 10 supercentres to beat him, and Ben certainly let Joshua know that is what he had to do. In the end Joshua certainly did get his possible but the supercentre count was a little short of the target required but still a very tidy 90-06. This meant Ben won the F-Class Open off rifle 178-15 to Joshua’s 178-12.
Meanwhile in F-Class Standard Karen Holder made her return after a long absence and took no time finding her old rhythm to take out the first stage shooting a very credible 88-06 and narrowly edging out Adam Eckford with 88-04. The second stage saw Karen post another 88-06 to be well and truly in contention for the F-Class Standard A grade Off Rifle win when Jeff Luck got down and shot a very impressive possible, 90-10 to sn**ch the stage win and the A Grade off rifle win with 177-17.
This week we also welcomed Lyle Lynch back to the competition. After being side lined for a couple of months Lyle returned to competitive shooting posting an 82-01 and following that up with a very credible 87-06 in the second stage.
Well done to all who participated to make what was a very enjoyable afternoon with some very good shooting on display.

Full results for the week are as follows

Ben Ferrara F Class Open 178.15
Joshua Ferrara F Class Open 178-12
Jeff Luck F Class Std A 177-17
