January has been an unforgettable month for the Viva Racing team, with four outstanding wins across NSW and Queensland to start the year in the best possible way. It all began at Ballina where Chief of Staff claimed the $100,000 Inglis Bonus Maiden after a race that had been carefully targeted months in advance. A brilliant ride from Andrew Mallyon from a wide gate saw him get the job done, marking Viva Racing and Matthew Dunn Racing’s third Inglis Bonus Maiden win an incredible achievement.
The momentum continued at Port Macquarie with Moscow Circus taking out the Queen of the North for Fillies and Mares, bouncing back in style after a tough first-up run. She showed her class with a patient and confident ride from Aaron Bullock and now looks toward the Country Championship Qualifier at Coffs Harbour on 15 February.
That form carried across the border to Queensland where Mrs Goldberg delivered a dominant performance at the Sunshine Coast. The three-year-old filly appreciated a little give in the ground and a well-judged ride from Cejay Graham, taking her record to two wins from just three starts with plenty of improvement still to come.
The month was capped off at Royal Randwick where Kingdom Undersiege stepped up to city grade for the first time and proved himself with a strong win under Nash Rawiller, making it four wins from five starts. He too will head toward the Country Championship Qualifier at Coffs Harbour on 15 February over 1400m. A huge congratulations to Matthew Dunn Racing, our jockeys, stable staff and ownership groups, what a way to kick off the year.
