🔴🔴🔴 Ballina Races 🔴🔴🔴
Last Thursday the stable travelled the short trip across to Ballina.
Exhibitor 4th placing - Stepping slowly away she was niggled into a prime position early but with the Blinkers on at the 1600m for the first time , she raced far too keenly throughout , looking the winner on the turn her run peaked in the straight and she held on for a 4th placing.
Palawa Kani 1st - beginning well from the barrier she worked across to the lead doing abit of work to get there , took on coming to the turn , she kicked strongly clear only to get tired late but holding on for a decent win. After going way to hard on the lead at Grafton in her first start , she made amends showing her promise , thanks to the silky hands of Kirk Matheson who saved enough for the finish. Hopefully a decent horse in the future for her owners Stephen Karen Butcher.
Holbrook 3rd - settling midfield throughout , he wasn’t helped by the moderate tempo early , taking awhile to wind up on the tight track with the big weight. He flew late to go under by .4 of a length. Holbrook is racing in great heart and is starting look like a fitter horse at the moment, a win shouldn’t be too far away.
Picton 9th - starting favourite of a last start win , Picton looked a tad disappointing. But looking at his previous form a dry track is more to his liking. Hoping he can bounce back to better form next time out.
Beef Week Princess 2nd - settling well back in the run , finding a dead end from the 600m til into the straight . She launched strongly once clear , only for the post to come up too soon and go down by .4 of a length. The Casino Prince filly put up a strong performance , no doubt at a more suitable distance next time out , she should be winning.
Amirykal 2nd - jumping well to settle just of the speed , travelled well coming to the turn , carried a bit wider on the turn and entering the straight . Once balanced flew the last 100m to only be denied by .3 of a length. Coffs cup day beckons for this mare next start , she looks to be in for another exciting prep.
Lace and whiskey 5th - racing on an unsuitable heavy track , she ran an admirable race to finish a close up 5th. She has now been sold and will continue her career in Victoria.
A great day at the races, with a winner and three very close placings .
Congratulations to all connections.
Tomorrow we swing the back gates open to race on our home track at Lismore.
Fingers crossed for another great day!
