It has been a long hard week.

We finally made it back into the stables yesterday after waiting 3 long days for them to be even visible.

What we were met with was utter devastation and we have nothing left. This flood was like no other.

We had moved a lot of gear up into the grandstand that has never gone under water before and with this flood being 2 metres higher than any flood ever recorded in history, water went right up to the roof.

It is going to be a long road to recovery but our horses are safe and well with Ballina Jockey Club welcoming us for the last week and that is the main thing.

We will slowly rebuild and hope to be back Racing soon 🐎

🔴🔴🔴Lismore races🔴🔴🔴

The stable continued on its recent run of success with a winner and another two close seconds.

Exhibitor 2nd placing - settling into a handy spot behind the leaders , found traffic and lost her position approaching the home turn, she darted back to the inside and went down narrowly. A win is looming for this mare.

Mullumova 2nd - midfield in the run , she travelled nicely into the straight desperately looking for an opening before being shut out by the eventual winner. Having to be steadied and taken to the outside she flew late to just be denied. Mullumova is improving sharply hopefully another winner for the stable right around the corner.

Split Jete 5th - having his first start in a race he started from a terrible gate , settled worse then midfield on a limb three deep , kept running on at the finish. Bring an immature horse , whatever he does this preparation he will only be better next time.

Beef week princess 6th - slotting in one off midfield , she found traffic at the wrong time on the point of the corner then missed the boat , only to get going late when the race was over. A big forget for her.

Rose Bouquet 1st - fresh off a disappointing run at the Gold Coast last time, she made amends with a great win. Aided by another fine ride by Kirk Matheson , she is a horse going places . Stephen Karen Butcher can only be excited that this sister to their star mare Queen of Kingston can climb the ladder in her career.

Holbrook 6th - dropping back in distance waiting for another suitable race. From a bad gate was wide early worse than midfield , kept coming in the straight to run on strongly at the finish.

Congratulations to all connections and a big Thank you to all our staff.

Tomorrow the stable heads down the Highway to Coffs with two decent chances in Amirykal and Beef week princess

🔴🔴🔴 Ballina Races 🔴🔴🔴

Last Thursday the stable travelled the short trip across to Ballina.

Exhibitor 4th placing - Stepping slowly away she was niggled into a prime position early but with the Blinkers on at the 1600m for the first time , she raced far too keenly throughout , looking the winner on the turn her run peaked in the straight and she held on for a 4th placing.

Palawa Kani 1st - beginning well from the barrier she worked across to the lead doing abit of work to get there , took on coming to the turn , she kicked strongly clear only to get tired late but holding on for a decent win. After going way to hard on the lead at Grafton in her first start , she made amends showing her promise , thanks to the silky hands of Kirk Matheson who saved enough for the finish. Hopefully a decent horse in the future for her owners Stephen Karen Butcher.

Holbrook 3rd - settling midfield throughout , he wasn’t helped by the moderate tempo early , taking awhile to wind up on the tight track with the big weight. He flew late to go under by .4 of a length. Holbrook is racing in great heart and is starting look like a fitter horse at the moment, a win shouldn’t be too far away.

Picton 9th - starting favourite of a last start win , Picton looked a tad disappointing. But looking at his previous form a dry track is more to his liking. Hoping he can bounce back to better form next time out.

Beef Week Princess 2nd - settling well back in the run , finding a dead end from the 600m til into the straight . She launched strongly once clear , only for the post to come up too soon and go down by .4 of a length. The Casino Prince filly put up a strong performance , no doubt at a more suitable distance next time out , she should be winning.

Amirykal 2nd - jumping well to settle just of the speed , travelled well coming to the turn , carried a bit wider on the turn and entering the straight . Once balanced flew the last 100m to only be denied by .3 of a length. Coffs cup day beckons for this mare next start , she looks to be in for another exciting prep.

Lace and whiskey 5th - racing on an unsuitable heavy track , she ran an admirable race to finish a close up 5th. She has now been sold and will continue her career in Victoria.

A great day at the races, with a winner and three very close placings .

Congratulations to all connections.

Tomorrow we swing the back gates open to race on our home track at Lismore.

Fingers crossed for another great day!

On Tuesday the stable made the short walk to our home track with five runners.

Our first engagement was the debutant Mullumova. Having a nice run throughout the race, Kirk Matheson extricated her to the middle of the track and fleetingly looked a chance before her run ended to finish an encouraging fifth. With that run under her belt she will take natural improvement to be right in the finish at her next start.

In race two we had two runners Beef Week Princess and Exhibitor. Both fillies being eye catching runs out of the same race from last week at Ballina.
Both got a long way back early , found a traffic jam coming to the turn and into the straight. Exhibitor brilliantly ridden by Matthew McGuren looked the winner before Beef Week Princess found room to jump out of the ground late to deny her stablemate on the line to complete a stable Quinella.
Both look to have a bright future ahead . Congratulations to Stephen Karen Butcher and Jockey Noriyuki Masuda

In race 3 we had Gillicks Way , coming off somewhat of a disappointing run last week , he got a long way back early and was tight for room at stages in the straight but found the line ok indicating he will appreciate the step up to 1400m.

In race 6 Holbrook was our final runner for the day, racing over an unsuitable distance he was almost last on the turn, found traffic all way up the straight and crossing the line untested. Holbrook will back up on Sunday at Grafton. He will be worth a each way bet at long odds.
Thank you to all our staff!

Stables next runners will be at Grafton on Sunday.

🔴🔴🔴 Ballina Races 🔴🔴🔴

Today the stable made the short trip across to Ballina with six runners.

Race 3 we had 2 runners , Beef Week Princess who having her first start today settled midfield in transit, made her run in the middle of the track and ran on strongly to finish second. Exhibitor was close behind her stablemate in the run and ran home soundly to be a fast finishing third. Both the Stephen Karen Butcher owned fillies should be winning a maiden shortly.

Race 4 Holbrook sat well back early, made solid ground mid race and battled away at the finish. He had a good blow after the race indicative of him being a run short for the 1900m , with the benefit of that run he will bob up a decent odds soon.

Race 5 Picton who ran an eye catching fourth last Sunday at Murwillumbah , ran right up to that run by taking out the race with a strong burst late up the fence. Ridden well by Noriyuki Masuda he saved ground throughout , held up approaching and rounding the home turn but sprinted quick enough in the straight once clear to win by enough on the line. Picton looks to have another win left up his sleeve.

Race 6 saw Pumps run a gallant fifth , after being attacked 4 wide on the first turn for the lead doing far too much work, he still travelled strong coming to the turn and kicked away looking the winner until the final 100 he was swamped late.
He also is looking a coming winner

Finally to Race 7 Gillicks way , drawing wide and getting a long way back was somewhat disappointing to beat only one runner home. Up in grade this prep he maybe looking for further races so he can race much handier to the lead.

Congratulations to all connections and Staff.

🔴🔴 Beef Week Races 🔴🔴

On Friday it was the annual beef week races and the stable made the short trip to Casino with four runners, all having their first runs back from long absences.

Our first runner of the day Rose Bouquet scored her maiden victory in emphatic style by winning in an ever widening margin of 5 lengths. Resuming from an injury and without the benefit of a trial, the War filly looks to be an exciting prospect for her owners Stephen Karen Butcher who raced Rose Bouquet’s older sister , the stable favourite in Queen of Kingston.

Next up was the Akeed Mofeed mare Lace and Whiskey , also resuming she took on open company for the first time and ran a great race to finish 3rd , she looks a coming winner for the stable.

Pumps debuting for his new yard at the unsuitable distance of 1200m sat outside the leader in transit , looked to be a threat at the 200m before weakening and holding on for a strong 3rd.

Finally Holbrook the stables last runner of the day took on a strong field in the Beef Week Cup at 1400m , no doubt he will come on for the run and will be factor in races as the distances get longer in his preparation.

Congratulations to all connections.

🔴🔴 New edition to the team 🔴🔴

Here is our exciting yearling filly by “Better Than Ready”

We would like to thank Matt McGuren for doing a excellent job of breaking her in.

She is a promising filly who can be be a winner for the stable in the future.

Good luck to her owner Ray Hadley.
