What a Winternationals the Middy’s Electrical Pro Alcohol Funnycar team had.
We were one of only three cars that got down the track successfully on the Friday's first qualifying session with a 5.671 at 263 mph. Saturday was two more qualifying sessions. Our first ever 5.4 second pass at 5.467 at 265.64 mph saw us pretty optimistic. That was followed up with a 5.476 at 264.70. At the end of qualifying we were in fifth position in the 8 car field. We were 0.049 seconds behind the fourth qualifier, Daniel Reed, who we would race in the the first round. There were six cars under 5.5 seconds and it was the quickest Pro Alcohol field ever in Australia with a 5.532 in the eighth position. The 5.467 at 265.64 run is the quickest and fastest Veney headed alcohol fuelled pass in the world. So we were pretty happy.
Chris got the better start in round one against Daniel, but Daniel recorded a 5.410 to beat Chris's 5.502 at 263.87. Daniel went on the win the meeting with a 5.353, so congratulations to Daniel and his team.
We didn't hurt anything, we went quicker and faster than we ever had, so in my book that is a good weekend's racing. It could have been better, but there is always next time.
