The Rangers Football Club enjoyed a strong weekend across all grades, finishing with three wins and one loss in an action‑packed round of football.
The Under 16s produced the standout performance of the weekend with a dominant display against Scotts College. The young Rangers side were in complete control from the opening whistle, finding the back of the net 11 times in a commanding and disciplined showing.
In the 5th Division Men’s match, Rangers faced the undefeated competition leaders and held their own throughout the first half, trailing only 1–0 at the break. The side created several promising chances but were unable to convert as the match wore on. Fatigue eventually took its toll, allowing the opposition to extend their lead late, though the final score did not reflect the determination and effort shown by the Rangers side.
The Ladies team, sitting second on the ladder, met the competition leaders in what was expected to be a challenging encounter. Rising to the occasion, the Rangers side delivered an impressive all‑round performance, demonstrating strong teamwork in both attack and defence. Their efforts were rewarded with a well‑earned 2–0 victory, further strengthening their position near the top of the table.
The 2nd Division match was billed as the game of the round, with Rangers taking on local rivals Workmen’s Club. A slow start saw Rangers concede twice within the opening 20 minutes after a series of unforced errors. However, the early setback sparked the side into action. Rangers began to control possession and apply sustained pressure, forcing mistakes from their opponents and scoring two quick goals just before halftime to level the match.
The second half developed into a tight contest, with neither side able to gain clear dominance. The deadlock was finally broken in the 84th minute, when Rangers executed a sharp passage of quick‑passing football that resulted in the decisive goal. The Rangers team held firm in the closing stages to secure a thrilling 3–2 victory.
