🥋 The dojo is officially empty ❤️
After many years, countless classes, gradings, tournaments, friendships and memories, we’ve packed up our home away from home for the very last time.
This weekend has been one of the longest, most exhausting and emotional weekends we’ve ever experienced, but we couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of our dojo family.
To every student, parent, instructor, family member and friend who stayed behind after classes on Saturday to help us move, and to everyone who returned today to help clean, paint and prepare the dojo for handover—thank you.
Your generosity, hard work and willingness to give up your weekend meant more than you’ll ever know. We simply could not have done it without you, and we will always be grateful.
On a personal note, I also want to acknowledge my husband Sensei Moh.
This isn’t goodbye just yet, we’ll still see everyone on the mats, but today marks the end of almost 14 years of our lives and an incredible chapter in Moh’s martial arts journey.
Our family has grown up in this dojo. Our youngest son learnt to crawl and took his very first steps here. All of our children have spent much of their childhood on these mats, and these walls have been the backdrop to so many precious memories that we’ll carry with us forever. One of the proudest moments for our family was watching our son, Sempai Zach, earn his black belt in the very dojo that has shaped so much of our lives.
Moh began his Kyokushin journey in 1990 at Bondi Junction under Hanshi John Taylor. From student, to instructor, to Branch Chief, and now Vice President of MKA NSW, martial arts has never simply been something he does, it has been a lifelong calling.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been incredible highs, but also heartbreaking moments. We’ve navigated the challenges of COVID, the years that followed, and the devastating loss of Hanshi John Taylor, who was not only Moh’s teacher, but someone who helped shape the martial artist, instructor and leader he is today. Through every challenge, Moh never stopped showing up for his students.
I don’t think many people truly realise just how much of himself he has poured into this dojo over the past almost 14 years. The countless hours behind the scenes, the early mornings, the late nights, the weekends, the planning, the cleaning, the mentoring and the unwavering commitment to creating a dojo where everyone felt they belonged.
I have never been prouder of him. His resilience, integrity and dedication have touched hundreds of lives. The legacy he leaves behind isn’t this building, it’s the people. It’s the confidence he has helped build, the friendships that have been formed, the black belts he has guided, the instructors he has mentored, and the community he has created.
Perhaps what makes me proudest of all is that this isn’t really an ending. One of the greatest measures of a teacher is leaving something strong enough to continue without them.
Watching this next chapter begin under the leadership of Sempai Dave and Clare, alongside Sensei Mark, Sempai Mohammad, Sempai James, Sempai Zach, and the dedicated instructors who will continue teaching, is something truly special. The dojo’s future is in wonderful hands, and we know it will continue to grow while staying true to the values it has always been built upon.
Although this chapter of our lives is coming to a close, Moh will continue to serve as Branch Chief and Vice President of MKA NSW, and we both look forward to returning for gradings, tournaments, camps and special events. This isn’t goodbye, it’s simply the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another.
We’re writing this post from Sempai Dave and Clare’s new dojo, where we’re putting the finishing touches on everything ready for tomorrow’s very first classes. We can’t wait to see this exciting new chapter begin.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every student, parent, instructor, volunteer and supporter who has been part of this incredible journey over the past 14 years. Thank you for trusting us with your children, believing in us, and helping create a dojo that has always been about so much more than martial arts.
The building may now be empty, but it will never be empty of the memories, friendships, lessons and lives that were shaped within its walls. Those will remain with us forever. Every student who has walked through our doors has become part of our extended dojo family, and that has always been the greatest achievement of all.
We’ll see you all on the mats tomorrow.
