A deeply moving moment yesterday as Keegan’s O35/6B teammates, the final team he played for, and their opponents Strathfield Football Club⚽️ stood together for a minute’s silence before kickoff.

🎉This is the news we've been waiting for!

The all-weather field at Balmain Road Sporting Ground has been given final approval by the Local Planning Panel. Construction starts in September and the field will be ready for the start of the 2027 winter season.
For years our players have played and trained on bare and patchy grass and missed countless games due to washouts. They finally get a consistent, all-weather pitch they can train and play on in any conditions, and that increases both how much football Leichhardt Saints can actually run and the number of players we can cater for.

There is one thing we won't gloss over. The Panel didn't approve the second field at Waterfront Drive, on flood-planning grounds. From the start this was never one field or the other. The demand across our two clubs and the wider Inner West community means both fields are needed, and a single approval doesn't close that gap. Council has said the Waterfront Drive issue comes down to a design adjustment, and will seek a review and lodge revised plans, and we'll be right behind that effort alongside Balmain DFC.

To everyone who lodged a submission, turned up, spoke up and never let this go, thank you. This is your win as much as ours, and we cannot wait to see our players run out onto the new field!

Our very own Jon Mayberry, player and coach, flew the Saints colours at the home of football on 25 May as Notts County, the oldest professional club in the world, claimed victory in the League Two Play-Off Final. 🖤🤍

🏅 Meet Our April Players of the Month!

A little overdue, but no less deserved - we're thrilled to recognise Sophie (U10G/4) and Darcy (U8/10A) as our Leichhardt Saints FC Players of the Month for April.

Each month, we celebrate junior players (U8–U12) who go above and beyond in skill, attitude, and team spirit - and Sophie and Darcy have certainly led the way.

🌟 Sophie has been a dynamic and energetic member of the team in her first season, contributing across the park with great defence, sharp passing, and plenty of goals. She trains hard, brings a positive attitude every week, and never takes a backward step. A terrific teammate through and through - well done, Sophie!

🌟 Darcy is one of the hardest working players on the field, constantly moving and putting in 100% to support the team. A fair and considerate teammate, Darcy is always looking to pass and share the ball around - even in front of goal. Respected and valued by everyone in the U8/10A 'Panthers', Darcy is a credit to the squad. Congrats, Darcy!

Both players will receive a framed certificate, Saints merchandise, and automatic nomination for the Gawain Lewis Junior Player of the Season award later this year!🏆

It is with profound sadness that we inform our Leichhardt Saints community of the passing of Life Member, Keegan Ridings. Keegan passed away last week on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, aged 40.

The Ridings family shares a deep history with our club. Keegan's father, Tony, is a former President and continues to serve as our Returning Officer at AGMs. Keegan himself was a cornerstone of the Saints; for many years, he held the proud distinction of being our longest-serving player. An exceptional goalkeeper, he also generously gave his time back to the club for many years, volunteering and passing on his skills at our Goalkeeper Clinics before health reasons ultimately forced him to stop playing.

Keegan lived a life full of generosity and humour, and his loss leaves a massive hole in our community.

Our deepest condolences and love go out to his adored wife Krystyna, his daughter Eva, his parents and family, his former teammates, and all of Keegan’s friends during this incredibly painful time.

This coming weekend, we ask all our Leichhardt Saints teams from Under 13 and older to wear a black armband to honour Keegan's incredible legacy at our club.
