17 isn't too late to train. But it might be too late to develop.
There's a difference.
Development is a long-term process rooted in sensitive periods — windows where the body is primed to adapt to specific stimuli.
Speed.
Coordination.
These windows don't wait for convenience.
By 17, most of those windows have narrowed significantly. What you're left with is a young adult who has to work twice as hard to build what could have been laid down effortlessly at 9, 11, or 13.
Long-term athlete development isn't a philosophy. It's biology.
