TO WIN YOU REALLY HAVE TO BE PREPARED TO FAIL FIRST.....
(So much went wrong on this squat even the bailout 😅)

Now don't take that opening statement out of context.. I definitely haven't won much in the scheme of life, but what I can say is this!!

I truly believe when it comes to your training if you have not actually failed under a Squat or failed a Deadlift or had the bar land on your chest during a Bench Press then you are really not training at your full capacity.

The idea of this may worry you a little but once its happened you will realize that the weight that stressed the life out of you is actually way more weight than you expected!!

Remember Squat racks have safety bars for a reason it's to keep you safe, you can also bench press in a Squat rack if you feel unsafe so again the safety bars will be there for you!!

Get under that bar and test yourself, you may well surprise yourself into lifting more weight for reps than you thought!! Don't underestimate FEAR!!

PROTEIN... Are you getting a sufficient amount??

While lecturing I find I get asked this question more than not!!
The frustrating answer sounds like a copout but it goes like this... I am sure you have heard this before!!

The amount.......
Depends on the client!
Depends on the coach!!
Depends on the training stimulus!!
Depends on the clients digestion!!
Depends on how many Carbs the clients consuming!!
Depends on how much good fats the client is eating!!
If you eat too much Protein, you have to look out for Protein Neogenesis.
If you don't eat enough Protein you wont grow Bro!!
And I am sure you have all heard of some or all, if not more but lets get to the point!!

I like to put it into a more simplified terms from experience with a little science and a lots of the "Art of coaching"
Compliance will always win over all things with clients, why? because you can write the most scientific diet plan known to man kind but If nobody can adhere to it then its not worth a pinch of sh to anybody!!

So try this for size... Track a weeks worth of Protein literature around the double bodyweight plus for hypertrophy clients, or the 1.4 to 1.9 grams times bodyweight using a sliding scale around the fat loss/training effect your clients is looking to achieve. See if they hit the quoter everyday, If they don't and the "feedback" says they are struggling then drop it a little and see how they go in week two.
So on and so on until the actual quoter given is hit perfectly then work on increasing slowly. I feel one of the biggest mistakes trainers make is trying to change the clients protein norms rather than help build new ones!!

My finding over the last 14 years says its Protein is an accumulation effect of clients usual eating protocols plus gut health and digestion working hand in hand that allows clients to get up to maximum dosages of protein for the elusive gainz...

This guy for all of his Dopamine dominance hires me as his coach and since day one has tested me and my knowledge. He is one of the most a**l perfectionist's I have ever had the pleasure of putting on stage. 🤣😎

Technically Dane is an online client of mine although he lives in the same town, I wrote all of his programs and designed his nutrition. Not once have I had to worry if he is giving 100% in the gym due to his perfectionism, it was never an issue.

To congratulate this guy and to say thank you for his unwavering respect fo me and my business would be no where near enough, but words are hard to find for such a humble guy!!

So if you were wondering, Dane was 75kgs of natural muscle in the before pic at 6.1% on BioPrint and 80kgs in the after pic at 5% on the dot on BioPrint.

Ben Keam arrives from Bali, Indonesia where he has been coaching boxing enthusiasts for both fitness and in preparation for competition.

Born and raised here in Launceston, Tasmania, Coach Keam has over seven years experience, successfully running his own Personal Training and Online Coaching businesses in both the Gold Coast and Melbourne.

He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in boxing coaching, weight training and body recomposition. Coach Keam is available to take new clients both in person and online.

TRAINING INTENTION.... ⠀

Are you asking yourself the right questions whilst training?⠀
Are you moving enough load per session to create the appropriate adaptation that you are looking for, for the specific phase of training your are in? ⠀
Are you creating the correct training mindset or just going through the motions? ⠀

The world of training, coaching, results, even mindset has changed through the amazing efforts of some equally amazing coaches within this unbelievable industry. ⠀

Recently, the training aspect has been left out due to everyone’s favourite terms and paraphrases.... e.g Deficit, Inflammation, Water retention, Surplus the list goes on and on.. NOPE this is not a bad thing its a very very good thing!! ⠀

But overall, it would appear that training results have suffered a little because of it... SO bring back the GRUNT, bring back the importance of Training Specificity, bring back periodisation parameters and remember the fact that LOAD IS KING; these are all very important for the knowledge that is need to progress with your goals. ⠀
Also being able to understand that between sets your Insta status can fkn wait until the session is completed... 😉 Train Hard, don’t walk out of the gym feeling like you haven’t given 110% of your effort. 💪🏼

COACH vs CLIENT
Is a transformation a challenge between the two of you? Or should you be a team? For us as a team and as coaches, it's important to know our clients well enough so that we can use a “coach verses client” approach through challenging them to deliver a desired result. Although, sometimes we endeavour to play the more supportive “I have your back, you can do this” role.. 🥇

In the past both have worked very well for all of our coaches at APEX Performance Institute because we make it our mission to know what makes our clients tick! This involves assessing whether the client;
1. Crumbles under pressure
2. Strives to please the coach
3. Is a quiet achiever
4. Needs or likes their coach screaming as a means of motivation
5. And a favourite; the method of reverse psychology, “I doubt you will get 6 reps this set, but let’s try for it and see how we go..”😇
Obviously the list goes on, the point being that your coach should be a motivator... But to do so, they must first and for most learn more about the client.

To us;
The hour our client spends in our company may well be the most favourite hour of their day or week... Therefore, we strive to make sure that the session is enjoyable and that they get the most out of the experience.

This is definitely not the norm for me to post shirtless selfies, but today you will have to excuse my boldness. We all have targets, goals and wanted outcomes, well today I have nailed a dream since competing of 100kgs of lean muscle mass.. As the head coach and business owner time has always been against me, clients, family and coaches have always come first.
This time I made it a priority to be a little selfish where I could and for five weeks straight my training has finally been consistent..
It just shows with some time management and summer looming what you can achieve.
Believe me when I say this is not the hardest I have ever trained but definitely the smartest.

Wanting results “today” isn’t productive!!

Another successful week of lecturing with my Clean Health Fitness Institute cap on... As always the students were amazing, the facility Tim Diegan looked after us with was top notch facility and his hospitality was second to none!!

Time now to enjoy Easter with the family, put back on my Apex Performance Institute cap and focus on client transformations, business development and the health driven approach to living!!!

Taking off the .performance.institute hat and putting on the one to lecture to one of my own level 2 coaches seems a little humbling really. Just how life can change so can business when you put your heart and soul into it!! Deliver results with respect and knowledge through persistence and adherence to learning from anyone and everyone without prejudice is my key to opening up opportunities for myself and people who want to join the Apex revolution... Putting young coach to the sword is icing on the cake no matter what hat I wear.. #🦍
