The History of Lauderdale Football Club

1863:
The beginning of football in the district when Clarence Plains competed in a country competition.

1882:
Rokeby represented the district in 1882 (and then later in 1985 to 1988 they were in the Tasman Football Association).

1930-1958:
Sandford competed in the South Eastern Football Association and in the Clarence Sub Districts Football Association 1949-1952. A team representing Ralphs Bay also competed in the Clarence competition 1957 and 1958. The Clarence Football Club sponsored this competition.

1979-1995:
Lauderdale re-formed and joined the Tasman Football Association (TFA), competing during the 1979 and 1980 seasons in black and white “magpie” colours. From 1981 to 1995 they were members of the Tasmanian Amateur Football League (TAFL), southern division, competing in blue and white “cats” colours. The Club’s first Premiership in the TAFL was won in 1991, by both Seniors and the Lauderdale Reserves. They were runners up in 1993.

1996-2000:
When the Amateurs and the Huon Football Association disbanded, Lauderdale was admitted as an inaugural member of the Southern Football league (SFL). Lauderdale was the first SFL club to introduce night football in Tasmania in 1998.

2001-2008:
Seniors and Reserves premierships in 2001. In 2002 when the SFL competition was divided into two divisions Lauderdale were part of the Regional Division. They were runners up in 2002 and 2003 and Brad Marsland won the 2002 Hodgman Medal. From 2004 to 2008 the Club participated in the AFL Southern Tasmania SFL Premier League changing their colours from blue and white to red and black….. “The Bombers”.

2007 marked a stellar year for Lauderdale when the club grabbed four Premierships out of a possible eight.

2009 - Current:
Lauderdale is one of ten clubs across Tasmania competing in AFL Tasmania’s Wrest Point State League at Senior and Reserve level. Prominent Past Players

This is it, Tip Rats.

After a huge season, our Senior Men will take on Clarence in the SFL Grand Final this Saturday at North Hobart Oval.

We want to see the Lauderdale community out in force. Wear your RED & BLACK, bring your family and friends, make some noise and get behind your favourite Tip Rats as they chase the ultimate success.

🔴⚫ LET’S TAKE OVER NORTH HOBART OVAL!

Our players will be based in the Ryde Street Stand on Grand Final Day, and we want to see, not only Ryde Street, but all of NHO, absolutely packed with red and black. Get there early, find your spot and be ready to make plenty of noise!

❤️🖤 GUARD OF HONOUR
Any supporters or junior players present at the ground, who would like to form a guard of honour for the boys as they run onto the ground are encouraged to get involved! Please meet Kiri at the Ryde Street Stand prior to the players running out. Let’s give the boys a huge Lauderdale welcome onto the ground!

SUPPORTERS NIGHT – THURSDAY NIGHT

We’d love to see as many Lauderdale people as possible down at the club on Thursday night to kick off the celebrations. Come in for a drink, bring the kids along to make some red and black streamers for Saturday, chat to players and enjoy the build-up to the biggest game of the year.

It will also be your LAST CHANCE to grab your Bombers merchandise before the Grand Final - so make sure you’re decked out in red and black for the big day!

Finally, Grand Final Week gives us another opportunity to recognise the incredible businesses who help make our football club possible. A massive THANK YOU to all of our major sponsors for your terrific support and contribution throughout the 2026 season. Your investment in our club, our players and our community is enormously appreciated.

🏅 WILLIAM LEITCH MEDALLIST — BAILEY GORDON 🏅

A huge night for the Lauderdale Football Club at last night’s SFL Awards, headlined by Bailey “Rat” Gordon taking home the William Leitch Medal! 🐀

In his first season Lauderdale, Rat has produced a remarkable year and has now been recognised with the competition’s highest individual honour.

An incredible achievement and one that everyone at Lauderdale is extremely proud of. ❤️🖤
