APR Team Midge Racing – 2026 Injury & Team Update 🏁
It’s been six weeks since our 2026 season took an unexpected turn.
During a round of the Tasmanian Rally Championship, Damien was navigating when the rally car had an off, resulting in fractures to the T12 and L1 vertebrae.
Following further scans and consultation with the neurosurgeon, the decision has now been made for Damien to sit out the remainder of the 2026 season and put all the focus into making a full recovery.
While it’s disappointing to bring the racing year to an early end, there’s still one more event for Team Midge in 2026!
🏁 Maklyn and Levi Midgley will compete in the upcoming Round 4 and final round of the Tasmanian Motorkhana Championship.
Going into the finale:
🥇 Maklyn – 1st Outright in the Championship
🥇 Levi – 1st Junior in the Championship
This will be the boys’ final event for 2026 before we park the race cars, regroup and turn our attention towards what is shaping up to be a massive 2027 season for APR Team Midge Racing.
And 2027 is going to be a big one...
🏎️ The team will debut a second Hyundai Excel in the Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championship.
🏁 And the Midgley racing family will grow again with the debut of our fourth driver, Austin Midgley, who turns 12 in December and will begin his own motorsport journey.
For now, Damien’s job is pretty simple — recover properly, get strong and make sure we’re ready to come back swinging in 2027.
A huge thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent messages and supported Damien and the team over the past six weeks. It has genuinely been appreciated.
First up, though, there’s still some unfinished business...
