It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved Mr Bear passed over the rainbow bridge this afternoon.. 🕊️❤️🩹🌈
In his 31 years of life, Bear was many things. In his early years he was a racehorse under the racing name “Kennewick Man”. He was then a dressage mount with the show name “Killawarra”, Virginia’s loyal partner. He was then a teacher, a fundamental figure of WRRS Orielton and later Wynyard.
But most of all, Bear was so loved. He touched the lives of many and made a lasting impact for riders and non-riders alike.
He was there when Baby was born, ran with her as she grew up, and then watched her give birth to her very own foal (our stunning Chiron). He was the grandfather of the herd, giving out many corrections over the years. He’s watched horses and students come and go, feared the red dragon (the Polaris), spooked at new neighbours (cows that had been opposite him for 4 years), taught the young ones, fed the ducks, and in the last years of his life ran alongside fellow senior Possum. These two grumpy old men were always a sweet sight to see, the short and the tall of it (so to speak).
Last week, an ex-student came to say their goodbyes and gave Bear his bobbed tail. We recommend you read the poem “The best horses in heaven have no tail” by Miska Paget if you aren’t aware of the meaning behind it.
There are so many things we could write about Bear, so many memories and moments. A Facebook post doesn’t seem nearly enough. We understand this is heartbreaking news for many, so to try and ease the grief and celebrate his life, we would love to hear your favourite memories/moments with Bear.
Share photos and stories, and let’s celebrate the life of an amazing horse that was Mr Bear🐻🪽
Lastly from those you left behind,
We hope you’re running freely along a river of molasses, surrounded by buckets of apples and carrots. We hope you’ve reunited with your girl Hara, and that you’re both galloping without the restraints of age. We hope you know how loved you are, and how many people have a Bear-shaped hole in their hearts now you are gone.
Rest easy now, Bear. We love you ❤️🩹
