CONGRATULATIONS JUSTIN!!!! A well deserved honour after many many many hears of work being the greenkeeper.

🌱🏆 Volunteer Greenkeeper of the Year – Congratulations Justin Cleggett! 🏆🌱

Bowls SA is thrilled to recognise Justin Cleggett from Langhorne Creek Bowling Club as the 2026 Volunteer Greenkeeper of the Year! 👏

Justin has consistently maintained an outstanding playing surface for many years, earning praise from both members and visiting clubs—an incredible effort given the green was last replaced in 1986 and has no automatic watering system.

🟢 15–20 hours per week dedicated to greenkeeping
🟢 Early starts from 6am to have the green ready for play by 8:30am
🟢 Hand-watering and careful irrigation in all conditions
🟢 Top dressing, coring, and ongoing soil improvement
🟢 Nearly 30 years of committed service to the club

Justin, your dedication and hard work are the foundation of great bowls at Langhorne Creek. Thank you for everything you do behind the scenes.

Friday night our club held its presentation dinner to celebrate the champions within the club and also the successes the club has experienced throughout the year.

With the club rooms almost booked out, there were many drinks and stories shared by all in attendance.

Our president Phil Zanker started off the night by welcoming the two club patrons in Jack Williams and Rosa Freschi, and also thanked members from the Milang bowls club who were in attendance, thanking them for allowing Langhorne Creek to play their games and tournaments at their venue.

Green update!!

After some great weather and a bit of rain, the new green has picked up amazingly from what it was a few weeks ago. Though there are a few small patches where growth has struggled, a couple of weeks under a grow mat has improved these spots also.

We can now see the picture our green keeper imagined and hope that everyone will enjoy playing on the new surface 😁🥰

With the minor round coming to a close, it's ups and downs at the creek.

The women's Div 2 and the open gender Div 2 have made it through to finals. Unfortunately our open gender Div 4s and 6s didn't make finals this year. Both sides put up a valiant effort throughout the whole year but unfortunately missed out on finals action.

Our Div 2 women's side finished 4th, scraping into the finals by a whisker. These women have been an inspiration to the club this year. From Finishing champions of Div 3 last year, the step up into Div 2 is quite a big one but our girls managed to get the job done and got into finals. The women will play at Milang on Thursday with a grudge match against Strathalbyn. The match will start at 9:15am and we encourage anyone to go down and cheer on our girls.

Our Div 2 open gender side also did fantastically this year. Starting with a 2-4 win loss, this team has fired when it's been needed towards the back end of the competition, beating 5 of the top 6 sides and going down to the other by 2 points. Div 2 has been very close at the top of the ladder, with the top 4 all finishing with 10 wins, with only draws and losses separating everyone. The match will likely be at Clarendon next Saturday against McLaren Vale. Game starts at 1pm and we also encourage anyone who can to go and cheer everyone on.

On Sunday we had our premier tournament event, the Rump N’ Red, at milang bowls club. This day is our biggest every year and this time around was no exception. With an extra green, we had 22 fantastic clubs from around SA come down for a fun filled day of bowls.

Our lunch was beautifully prepared by our resident chef Don Phillips and his crew of helpers, with all the teams commenting on the tender rump steaks.

During the lunch break we held our traditional auction, with items donated by our major sponsors Daish Irrigation and Fodder, our wine sponsor Kimbolton and an assortment of other local wines that were donated to the club.

We would like to congratulate the winners, Murray bridge bowls club, and also the runners up Willunga and Morphett Vale. They walked away with combined prizes provided by Daish and Kimbolton.

As the tournament director, I would like to extend a thank you to everyone that helped out on the day, especially Milang bowls club who allowed us to have the event at their club while our green is being replaced.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Sam.

Tuesday afternoon, the club spent the afternoon replanting the green. Quite a number of helpers were there on the day and this made the work go quite quickly.

After having sprayed out the dirt beforehand, the ground was then raked in lines across the geeen to create groves for the scarifyings to be planted into.

To ensure proper coverage, members were designated areas to spread the scarifyings with close monitoring by the experts on hand.

Once all scarifyings were spread, it was gently rolled before being covered by cloth. This will help the growth over the next few months.

We look forward to seeing what this will look like in a couple of months time 🥰

It’s finally getting underway!! 🎉

Starting today the bowls club began the very large tast of replacing the green.

Planted back in 1980, the green replacement has been a topic of discussion for a number of years. Thankfully the club was in a position that we could go ahead with the replacement this year.

With around 650 tonnes of dirt to be removed and around 600 tonnes brought back in, this was not a job the club members could do easily so large machinery was brought in.

We will keep you posted with the progress over the next few weeks 😁
