ing. Our fully equipped complex has 6 air-conditioned custom built dance studios plus a gym, kitchen and shower / change rooms. A library of resources, wireless internet access and audio-visual equipment is available to students. Nationally Accredited and approved by ASQA, National College of Dance offers three VET accredited courses in Dance

Intensive Training Program (for students still studying Y8/9 or 10 education)
Certificate III in Dance (CUA30113)

Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) (CUA50113)

Open from 8.00am to 8.00pm daily, our reception is available from 11am - 7pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am - 2.00pm Saturday. Our Junior Academy is accredited with Royal Academy of Dance. Housing a resident RAD examiner, RAD approved exam pianist and accredited RAD new syllabus trained teachers. The Junior Academy provides programs in Classical Ballet, Open ballet, Contemporary, Boys Classes, Jazz, Pilates, Adult Classes, Stretch and Body Conditioning. From Newcastle to the world stage.

Where Are They Now? – NCD Alumni

Meet Lilliana Eneliko, an Australian and Samoan artist whose career is taking her across some of the world's most respected contemporary dance companies and stages.

After completing her training at the National College of Dance, Lilliana moved to San Francisco to join Alonzo King LINES Ballet as a trainee, performing excerpts of Alonzo King's celebrated repertoire and new creations.

She then continued her training with Arts Umbrella and AUtour Dance Company in Canada, working with internationally renowned choreographers and performing works by Marco Goecke, William Forsythe, Sharon Eyal and Marcos Morau.

Lilliana has toured internationally, performed with Ballet BC in Shahar Binyamini's Bolero X in Vancouver and Crystal Pite's Frontier in Paris, and has had the privilege of working with Crystal Pite as a choreographic mentor.

Today, Lilliana is a member of Ballet BC Annex, continuing to perform and create throughout Canada.

Her journey is a reminder that strong training, dedication and courage can open doors around the world.

Where Are They Now? – NCD Alumni

Meet Morgan Hurrell

From regional NSW to the contemporary stage of Sydney Dance Company.

Born in Mudgee, NSW, Morgan began dancing at the age of two before relocating to Newcastle to undertake full-time training at the National College of Dance, where she completed her Diploma of Dance.

Driven by a passion for contemporary movement and performance, Morgan continued her training with the Sydney Dance Company Pre-Professional Year in 2021, before being offered a Trainee contract with the company.

Since then, Morgan has performed nationally and internationally in works by some of the world’s leading contemporary choreographers, including Rafael Bonachela, Ohad Naharin, Stephanie Lake, Antony Hamilton and Melanie Lane.

Her performance credits include Decadance, Impermanence, Momenta, Forever & Ever, Love Lock, AB [Intra], The Universe is Here and I Am-Ness.

Alongside her stage career, Morgan has also collaborated with global luxury brand Cartier, extending her artistry into the commercial and creative industries.

Morgan’s journey reflects the evolution of today’s contemporary artist — versatile, fearless, and willing to explore both stage and creative industries.

Where Are They Now? – NCD Alumni

From Newcastle to Salzberg to Bangarra Dance Theatre

Meet Chantelle Lee-Lockhart, a proud Dharawal and Eora woman whose career has taken her from regional NSW to one of Australia’s leading Indigenous performing arts companies.

Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in movement, cultural knowledge and storytelling, grounded by her feminine strength. Over her five years with Bangarra Dance Theatre, Chantelle has developed her craft through works that honour First Nations stories, histories, knowledges and experiences.

Chantelle grew up between the Central Coast and Muswellbrook NSW before moving to Newcastle to train at the National College of Dance, completing her Certificate IV in Dance in 2015 and her Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) in 2016.

Following graduation, Chantelle travelled to Salzburg, where she undertook four years of intensive training at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). During this time, she expanded her artistic perspective and deepened her contemporary dance practice by working with leading artists and choreographers from across Europe and beyond.

After returning to Australia and further training at NAISDA Dance College, she joined Bangarra Dance Theatre in 2022.

Since joining Bangarra, she has performed in acclaimed productions including Sandsong, Terrain, Yuldea, The Light Inside, Illume, and most recently Flora—choreographed by Bangarra’s Artistic Director and Co-CEO, Frances Rings. Flora brought together two of Australia’s major performing arts companies The Australian Ballet and Bangarra Dance Theatre.

Her journey reflects remarkable tenacity, a willingness to forge her own path, and a profound understanding of movement as a driver for storytelling. Guided by a strong commitment to Country and Community, Chantelle continues to embody the values of cultural connection, artistic excellence and creative leadership.

Behind every confident dancer is a teacher who develops a strong foundation.

Meet Madeline Gibson, part of the teaching faculty at the National College of Dance.

Madeline's journey in dance began in regional NSW, where she started training at the age of eight. Her dedication and talent quickly saw her accepted into the The Australian Ballet School Interstate Training Program at just 12 years of age, travelling regularly to Melbourne to further her training over three years.

At 15, she joined the Tanya Pearson Academy full-time classical program performing soloist roles with Sydney City Youth Ballet

Her passion for ballet then took her to Amsterdam, where she studied at the Dutch National Ballet Academy, graduating with an Associate Degree in Classical Ballet. During this time, she worked alongside the Dutch National Ballet on their production of Raymonda and gained invaluable experience working with renowned répétiteurs on works by Crystal Pite and William Forsythe.

Following graduation, Madeline performed professionally with the Victorian State Ballet, appearing in productions including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Paquita and Giselle.

Alongside her performing career, Madeline has continued to teach and mentor dancers of all ages, completing a Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management and developing a passion for helping young dancers reach their potential.

Today, she brings this wealth of experience into the studio, guiding students with care, clarity and a deep understanding of the training required to progress.

Because great dancers aren't built overnight.

They are built through strong foundations, consistent guidance and teachers who understand the journey.
