πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ NAIDOC Round 2026 – Celebrating 50 Years of Deadly! β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€
Round 9 is shaping up to be our biggest round of the season as we come together to celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
πŸ‰ 30 home games across the weekend at Ford Oval – our biggest round of the year!
πŸ‘• All Wests teams will proudly wear a special NAIDOC Round jersey designed by Bailey Scholes – a proud Wests junior, coach and current senior player.
⭐ Keep an eye on our socials as we continue to showcase player profiles leading into NAIDOC Round.
🎨 Join us for an Indigenous Art Workshop with local artist Renee Lamb at Ford Oval on Thursday 2 July.
We encourage all players, families and supporters to come along, learn, create and celebrate the rich culture and stories of our First Nations peoples.
πŸ”₯ A Traditional Smoking Ceremony will be held at Ford Oval on Saturday 4 July at 8:45am, with Traditional Dancers performing as part of the ceremony. We would love to see as many Wests families as possible there to help officially open what promises to be a very special day for our club and community.
πŸ‰ The celebrations continue with our senior club hosting their own NAIDOC Round at Harker Oval in their Round 12 clash against Souths, alongside Old Boys & Birds Day.
This promises to be a massive weekend across both our junior and senior clubs as we come together to celebrate culture, community and connection. Whether you're playing, volunteering or cheering from the sidelines, we encourage everyone to get involved and be part of the celebrations.

This NAIDOC Week, we’re proud to introduce Theo, one of our Wests Reds Under 10s players.

I connect with my culture by playing barefoot footy with my cousins and swimming at the beach on Awabakal Country. Whenever I get a break from sport, I love heading home to Bogga and Toomelah on Gomeroi Country, putting my feet in the river and spending time with all of my cousins. My favourite time of the year is the Rugby League Knockout, where I get to watch my Dad play.
When I’m not playing rugby league, I love spending time with my family. I have three sisters and a baby niece who I love hanging out with. I also enjoy going to school, playing PlayStation with my Uncle, attending cultural events and watching the NBA.
My favourite sporting idols are Latrell Mitchell and my Dad. They have both played professional sport and are proud of their culture, which inspires me every day.
What I’m most proud of is being part of the oldest living culture in the world.

This NAIDOC Week, we're proud to introduce Kaylen, a talented member of our 17 Division 1 team.
---------------------------------------------
"Hi, I'm Kaylen, I'm 16 years old and I'm a proud Wiradjuri person with family connections to the Wailwan and Worimi communities.
My sporting idol is the one and only Greg Inglis. I was lucky enough to meet him, spend some time with him and have a laugh, which is something I'll always remember.
As a proud Indigenous person living in Newcastle, I love spending time on Country because it strengthens my connection to my community and my family ties.
I'm most proud of my achievements and the hard work I've put into my life, especially in football. My focus and commitment have shown me that I can achieve success when I put my mind to something. I'm also really proud of gaining an apprenticeship.
When I'm not playing league, you'll usually find me hanging out with my mates and having fun.
To me, NAIDOC Week is about celebrating and connecting to my culture and being proud to be an Indigenous person living and working on Awabakal Country."

Thank you for sharing your story, Kaylen. We are proud to celebrate you and the strength, pride and culture you bring to our club. πŸŸ’πŸ”΄πŸ’ͺ

πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’› NAIDOC Player Profile – Bentley πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’›

Hi, my name is Bentley and I play for Wests Under 8 Red.

I am proud to be from Worimi Country.

My favourite sporting idol is Tolutau Koula because he can run straight through people.

My favourite place on Country is the ocean because it is filled with dolphins, turtles, whales and many different species of fish. Spending time on the water with my Dad is one of my favourite things to do. My Dad is teaching me about our culture, our mob and our traditions.

I am most proud of always improving and never giving up.

Away from rugby league, I love riding dirt bikes, playing with my friends, learning art and learning to use a spear.

To me, NAIDOC Week is a celebration of the stories, art and survival of Aboriginal culture.
