Sunshine Coast Gliding

Many thanks to Darling Downs Soaring Club for hosting us this past weekend! They were generous enough to offer soaring coaching to those who wanted it and helped others check off requirements on their way to their GPC. Hamish was even able to have his first solo flight! Congratulations!

Other members took advantage of the good conditions (and ideal outlanding options) to go cross country in 300km, 100km, and 50km tasks!

Again, big thanks to Chris Guy, Peter de Ryck, and Sarah Thompson for coordinating the outing for out club, a good time was had by all thanks to your efforts.

So good to have the flooring of the main hangars now fully concreted. So much easier to move gliders about and keep the floor clean.

Saturday was a successful day of gliding with predictions showing a small window up to 4000ft between 11am and 3pm before sharply dropping off (it did). Tim and Trevor took the ASK21MI out for a spin and even managed to capture Neil's landing in the club's ASK21. Peter and Lachi each went up for a nice flight in the Jantar and Tim completed his BFR with Chris.

We had a great day of gliding on Saturday with decent thermals, though with a low cloud base. Tim Nolan has made his return from the UK, welcome back! Everyone got a chance for a good flight with the conditions holding throughout the day.

Average weather rolled in on Saturday afternoon, but it didn't stop the guys from getting a few good flights in! Thanks again Tim R. for the video.

Some decent flights were had on Wednesday despite the poor forecast and average conditions (conditions actually improved in the afternoon instead of degrading!). Lachi had his BFR with Chris, there was an enthusiastic AEF, and Tim and Trevor took off in the ASK21Mi now with it's new nickname of 'Brolga'. Overall, a good outcome in poor weather.

Another good day of flying, this time on Sunday to avoid some less than ideal weather. The IS30 out of action for now as is undergoes it's form 2 inspection, the ASK21 was kept busy with more training flights and some early solo's. The Cirrus also got some action after lunch as soaring conditions began to change for the better with more developed clouds and a bit of streeting!
