Valley View Golf Report Sun 7 June 2026

After a wet and miserable week to open winter the Valley View course was in remarkably good condition for the field that turned out for Saturday’s Stableford event.

There was a dampening effect on the scoring though with only two players getting the better of the handicapper, their scores standing out like beacons on the Jack Bond scoreboard.

Those players were Rod Breen who, playing off a handicap of 11, took out A grade with the very good score of 39 points and Daryl Harrison who finished as the A grade runner up with 38 points after shooting a round of 74 off the stick as he once again threatened to break par.

In B grade Paul Pappin took home his second winner’s trophy for the week with 34 points while the Old Fox Les Hall finished two shots back with 32 points.

Jenni Bauerle won the ladies’ comp with 34 points and a five-shot margin from sister and runner up Leanne Busch who posted the score of 29 points.

Ball winners on the day were Gary Cleary with 34 points, Ray Falla (32), Lindsay Tatterson (31), Stephen Piggot (30), Bud Thorsen (30), John Burrows (30) and Pooch McHale (30).

Laurie Radley (ninth) and Shane Bywaters (13th) took home the best second shot balls but remarkably, given there was little breeze to speak of, not one player was able to find the putting surface from the tee on a Par 3 hole to claim a Nearest the Pin trophy.

On Tuesday Pres Mick McAuliffe took out A grade with 35 points in a countback from Steve Piggot while Paul Pappin made a good start to a good week with a win in B grade with 31 points. On a difficult day for scoring John Burrows was the B grade runner up with 23 points.

Ball comp winners were Kevin Bauerle with 33 points, David Collins (32) and Mick Pell 31).

Nearest the Pin winners were Kevin Bauerle (A grade 3rd hole), Paul Kuiper (A grade 12th), Dave Gebbie (B grade 12th) and Shane Bywaters (First Tea Voucher on 15th).

Laurie Radley seems to have the ninth under control as he took out the first of two best second shot balls on that hole for the week and I trust that he capitalised on his good work by making par. Mick Pell won the best second shot ball on the 13th.

Wintery conditions greeted players at Valley View last Wednesday. A small field of hardy players took to the course with only one grade contesting the Stableford event.
Jenni Bauerle proved to be a good all weather golfer to win with 32 points from Wendy Cox on 31 points.
The Division 2 Pennant final at Hilltop did not go Valley View’s way with Shepparton winning 3 matches to 2. Competition was close with all players taking their matches to the 17th or 18th holes. Winners on the day were Jenni Bauerle and Helen Emery.
Valley View’s team in the final was Helen Armstrong, Von Morris, Wendy Cox, Jenni Bauerle and Helen Emery. Leanne Busch and Wanda Hacon also played during the season. Congratulations to all players for representing Valley View so well and to Jenni Bauerle who finished the season undefeated.

Valley View Men's Golf Report Sun May 31 2026

Valley View personality Steve Usher, one of the few men on the planet that can make US President Donald Trump seem shy, may never have his mug shot on currency or an albino buffalo groomed and named after him but he has something the US Pres will never have …. a Valley View Monthly Medal Shirt.

The Modest One took out his first Monthly Medal at the weekend after years of near misses and despair that included multiple near misses where he finished as runner up in countbacks.

Steve’s luck changed at the weekend however, posting a round of 82-11-71 as he got the better of Graeme Harrison (87-16-71) in a countback. Mind you the luck was out for the rest of the field at presentation as Steve is more than capable of matching The Don when it comes to lengthy speeches and this was only exacerbated by the hideous headwear that he was sporting.

The win was particularly gratifying for Steve as he missed over 12 months of golf in 2024-2025 due to illness though he nearly threw it away late in his round three bogeys and a double bogey at the back end of his round before steadying with pars on his last two holes.

Harro meanwhile never really got going with the handful of pars on his card all but cancelled out by double bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes.

In B grade Alan Hausler finished his round with 95-21-74 and a comfortable four shot win from Parkland’s Mal Williams who had a round of 96-18-78.

Wendy Cox was also a four-shot winner in the ladies’ comp with a round of 93-22-71 with Jenni Bauerle the runner up with 93-18-75.
Shane Bywaters (80), Haus (95) and Jenni Bauerle (93) produced the best gross scores for the day and Shane lead the ball comp winners with Nett 74 with other balls going out to David Collins (Nett 74), Brett Radley (76), Daryl Harrison (78), Gary Cleary (78), Von Morris (78) and Mick Gallivan (78) on a day where the scoring fell away sharply.

One of the highlights of the day was Alex Kydd’s effort in eagling not one but TWO holes, the par five 5th and 18th holes though he picked a bad week to do so as Miles Gould had cleaned out the Eagles Nest on Tuesday with an eagle on the fifth.

Helen Emery was the headline act on the Par three holes picking up the ladies’ Nearest the Pin on the third (and a dozen jackpot balls) with a tee shot to within a metre of the pin. Other NTP winners were Ian Rathjen (B grade 3rd), Paul Kuiper (A grade 12th), Alan Curnow (B grade 12th) and Mick McAuliffe (First Tea voucher on 15th).

Parkland’s Ray Fella picked up the nearest second shot on the 13th however the second shot ball on the ninth went unclaimed.

The first semi-final of the Isaac Memorial 4 Ball event was also played with Alan Curnow and Kerry Kreeck cruising to a decisive 7&5 victory over Lawrie Casey and Kelly Cheong. A six-hole hot patch from Kerry proving the difference.

To Tuesday and Daryl Harrison (A grade) and Geoff Strachan (B grade) headed the field both with 35 points while Mick Gallivan (A grade) and Ian Scurrah (B) both finished as runners up with 34 points.

Ball winners were Mick Bell with 33 points, Lindsay Tatterson (33), Frank Broucek (33), David Collins (32) and Paul Newman (31).

Mick Pell won’t need to buy balls in a hurry as he also won balls for A grade NTP on both the 3rd and 12th holes as well as the best second shot on the 13th.

Ian Scurrah won the second shot ball on the ninth and Nick Holman took home the First Tea Voucher.

Wednesday’s 4BBB, was our annual fundraiser for the Royal Women’s Hospital. We thank Open House for their continued generous sponsorship of this event.
Winners on the day, Helen Armstrong and Judy Greer teamed very well to accumulate 45 points. Runners up, Sharon Harrison and Wendy Cox also had a good day finishing with 41 points.
A Grade nearest the pin on the 15th was Jan McHale and the B Grade winner was Sharon Harrison. Wendy Cox took home the Firstea nearest the pin on the 3rd.
In pennant, despite losing 2/3 to Hill Top, with Jenni Bauerle and Leanne Busch being winners on the day, Valley View on 10 points, remained at the top of the table courtesy of games won. Shepparton and Hill Top also finished on 10 points. Valley View is drawn to meet Shepparton in the final at Hill Top on Monday June 1st. The result will be in next week’s report.

Valley View Men's Golf Report Sun 24 May 2026

The field that turned out for Saturday’s Isaac Family Memorial Qualifier produced some of the best scores in (my admittedly shaky) memory for this particular event.

Last year’s winning score of +5 was smashed by the combination of Sean McDonell and Luke Morris who posted the 4BBB Par score of +8.

That score left them as comfortable three shot winners and well clear of the five-way log jam of groups contesting the runner’s up spot all with the score of +5.

After a very lengthy countback Doug Crow and Peter Lyon emerged as the runner’s up from the pairings of Alan Curnow & Kerry Kreeck, Lawrie Casey & Kelly Cheong and Alan Hausler & John Neale.

While Doug and Peter took home the runner’s up trophy on for the day’s event Doug is not a member and as such that left the groupings for the next round as follows:

Sean McDonell & Luke Morris will take on the fourth placed qualifiers in Alan Hausler & John Neale while Alan Curnow & Kerry Kreeck will match up against Lawrie Casey and Kelly Cheong.

The next round needs to be completed by the end of June with the two winning combinations going through to the final which needs to be completed by the end of July.

While all that was going on the ladies contested an individual Stableford event with Sharon Harrison making a welcome return to form with 39 points finishing one shot ahead of Bev Lyon with 38 points. Judy Greer picked up a ball with37 points.

Nearest the Pin winners were Ash Kuiper and Peter Lyon (3rd), Brett Radley (12th) and Lawrie Casey won the First Tea Voucher on the 15th which he had no trouble in converting into a bogey four.
Von Morris (9th) and Pooch McHale (13th) picked up the nearest second shot balls.

While Saturday’s scores were exceptional the numbers from Tuesday’s Stableford round were tepid at best.

Daryl Harrison won A grade with 35 in a countback from Kevin Bauerle but things dropped away quite sharply after that with Geoff Strachan the B grade winner with 31 points from Kayne Crompton with 30.

Pooch McHale (33 points), Shane Bywaters (33), Mick McAuliffe (32) and Peter Blackmore (32) won balls in the ball comp.

Shane Piggot was the only NTP trophy winner on the day picking up the A grade ball on the 12th while Ron Dixon (9th) and Mick McAuliffe (13th) won the best second shot balls.

Our Match & Handicap team must be going away for the long weekend in a fortnight as, in their infinite wisdom, they have decided to bring the June Monthly Medal forward to next Saturday (29th May).

Valley View Men's Golf Report 17 May 2026

Saturday’s Stableford round produced some good scores with Dylan Gallivan, Graeme Harrison and Helen Armstrong leading their respective fields into the clubhouse for a Heart Balm themed presentation.

Harro put together the day’s best score of 40 points to take out B grade and somehow (almost outrageously) did little if any damage to his 17 handicap and will remain anchored in B grade at least for another week.

While Harro had the best score, the best round of the day come from Dylan Gallivan who, playing off a handicap of seven, won A grade with 39 points which (assuming he scored on every hole) would equate to a round of 76 off the stick.
Glenn Laity (A grade) and Bud Thorsen (B grade) took home the men’s runner’s up trophies with 38 points each.

Helen Armstrong was the ladies’ comp with 36 points by one shot from Sharron Harrison with 35 points.

Nigel Dow (after wiping three of his last four holes) and Pooch McHale led the ball comp winners with 37 points with other balls going to John Burrows (36 points), Albert Adams (35), Lawrie Casey (35), Mick McAuliffe (34), Wendy Cox (34), Jan McHale (34) and Gill Thorsen (34).

Gill also won the First Tea Nearest the Pin Voucher on the 15th while other NTP winners were Dylan Gallivan, John Neale and Helen Emery on the 3rd and David Collins and Jenni Bauerle (12th).

Nearest second shot balls were won by Craig Larcombe (9th) and Nigel Dow (13th).

On Tuesday David Collins scored his second midweek win on the trot with a round of 39 points and he finished a comfortable four shots clear of Shane Bywaters, Michael Pell and Gordon Mackay with 35 points. Shane got the nod in the countback for runner up.

Parkland’s Kayne Crompton won B grade with 37 points while Graeme Harrison won a countback over Frank Broucek for runner up with 34 points.

Ball winners were Gordon Mackay (35 points), Richard Caiolfa (34), Wil Harrison (34) and Frank Broucek (34).

Nearest the Pin winners were Shane Bywaters (A grade 3rd), Stephen Piggott (A grade 12th) and Kayne Crompton First Tea Voucher (15th).
Les Hall (9th) and Mick Pell (13th) won best second shot balls.

This week is the Isaac Memorial 4 Ball Par Qualifier so a good partner is a must…… unless you are Gordon the Golfer who did so well in the recent Wally Shaw he has chosen to fly solo again.

Valley View Men's Golf Report Sunday May 10

While scoring in the 41st edition of the Wally Shaw Memorial 4 Ball Aggregate followed the trend of lower scoring from recent years, history was made with Daryl Harrison and Mick Pell becoming the first pair to defend their title in this event.

In an even team effort Daryl finished with 36 points and Mick 35 and while that left them well short of their 77point total from last year, it was enough to give them a four-shot buffer from runners up in Graeme Harrison (34) and David Collins (33) who compiled an aggregate score of 67 points.

While Daryl and Mick created their own slice of history the best aggregate score of the day came from Jenni Bauerle (37) and Lynne Canavan (35) as they took out the ladies’ event with 72 points in another even team performance.

In an anomaly that four ball events sometimes throw up, Jenni was also paired with Helen Emery and they finished with the second-best score of 65 points.

ANZAC Day runner’s up in Glenn Laity and Lindsay Tatterson had more success leading the ball comp winners with 66 points with the combinations of Steve Brown and Ian Rathjen, Mick Gallivan and Paul Dickens, and Gordon Mackay and Peter Blackmore all winning balls with aggregates of 65 points.

What’s more it did not go unnoticed that Gordon the Golfer contributed 39 points from the tally of the last-mentioned pairing.

Mick Pell added the A grade Nearest the Pin on both the 3rd and 12th to his winner’s trophy, Alan Curnow and Lyn Canavan also won NTP balls on the 3rd and Von Morris won the First Tea voucher on the 15th.

Julie Neale (9th) and Alex Kydd (13th) won the best second shot balls.

David Collins dominated Tuesday’s Stableford event taking out A grade with 37 points and picked up the First Tea Voucher on the 15th along the way.

Mick McAuliffe was the A grade runner up with 36 points.

In B grade the recently demoted Graeme Harrison scored a win with 35 points with Bud Thorsen the runner up with 33 points.

Local mail was held over to allow Lawrie Casey to lead the ball comp winners in with 34 points and he was joined on that list by Kelly Cheong also with 34 points, Steve Piggot (32), Peter Blackmore (32), Kevin Humbert (32), Colin Ranitonga (31) and Mick Gallivan (31).

Colin Ranitonga (B grade 3rd) and David Collins (15th) were the only NTP winners on the day.

This Saturday’s event is an individual Stableford while the following week will be the Isaac 4BBB Par Qualifier which is another honour board event. It will be interesting to see how many combinations from Saturday will back up as a team for this event.
