Happy Fathers day to myself and all the other fathers and father figures on the page.
What started as an early morning for the kids with presents, turned into an anything but normal day of racing.
After reassembling the Excel last weekend with the help of Dylan and Ian, and consequentially remembering why I built and loved driving the Excel in the first place, it was loaded on the trailer for the first dry event of the season at South West Touring Car Club Bunbury track.
After a great sighting lap, albeit for the car developing a miss on its way around the track, we were all set for a great day of racing in the sun, something we had all been missing.
Unfortunately, the Excel had other plans for the day. After starting it up for its first run of the day we had no power and it would hardly idle. I quickly parked it up and Dylan generously let me drive his car for the first round while we hoped to be able to figure out what was happening with the Excel before its second run of the day. But it wasnt to be.
After coming back from the first round, we found the engine to be full of milky oil and that was the Excel done for the day.
Thanks to Dylan for letting me race his new car all day, and even managing to beat him overall by 3secs accross the day.
All wasnt lost today, with a present for the Excel being picked up after the days racing had finished, in the form of a shiny new supercharger ready to be added.
The plus side of now having to do a head gasket is that at least we will know what condition everything is in before adding some boost.
Unfortunately, I didn't take many photos today, but a big thanks to Caravan King Mandurah for the tow car to get down and back, as well as all the volunteer officials at Southwest Touring Car Club for putting on another great event as usual!
Now we have 9 weeks to rebuild the Excel and get it ready for the twilight round in Bunbury and then the Summer Autocross Series - WA Car Club at Kwinana Motorplex starting shortly after.
