Sammyroo Karate School applies traditional karate training with the influence of self protection by teaching students values of self discipline for yourself and others, and helping them develop physical and mental skills used throughout their lives. The title "Sammyroo" was created in remembrance of John Cook's son Samuel, who had been tragically killed in a car accident. The karate school was cre
ated to help John come to terms with the loss of his son. John Cook and fellow martial artist and friend Steve Erixon organised classes to run at Freeman's Reach Public School, the school Samuel attended before his passing. Freeman's Reach Public School has been the location for the Sammyroo Karate School for over 32 years. Following John's passing, the school is now run by Head Instructor Steve Erixon and assisted by John Sloan, Nicole Groger, Karina Miller and David Hazeltine. Classes are on twice a week, with Monday's lesson being a mixed adult and children environment from 6:30pm to 8pm. On Wednesday nights, their is a lesson for the children, from 5pm to 6:30pm, followed by a senior class from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
