Exciting upgrades are coming to the Kununurra Tennis and Netball Courts 🎾

Both facilities are getting brand-new, high-performance playing surface to elevate your game. To make way for the transformation, the courts will briefly close while the team gets to work.

World Drowning Prevention Day 2026 – Unite to turn the tide on drowning 💧

Every year, over 300,000 people worldwide lose their lives to drowning – including hundreds of families across Australia.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, communities across Australia and around the globe are uniting to turn the tide on drowning by raising awareness, building lifesaving skills and taking simple actions that help keep people safe in, on and around water.

Kununurra Leisure Centre is proud to support Royal Life Saving Australia and the global movement to prevent drowning.

Here’s how you can take action:
- Enrol in swimming lessons
- Supervise children at all times around water
- Check your pool fence and gate
- Avoid alcohol and drugs around water
- Wear a lifejacket when on the water
- Know the conditions
- Learn CPR
- Train to become a swim teacher or pool lifeguard

Exciting progress! Our new pool is officially filling up💧

You might notice the water isn't crystal clear just yet, but don't worry! It's coming straight from the Ord River, so that's completely normal. The filling process takes a few days, with the water level rising by around 30 mm every hour.

Once it's full, tested, and balanced, it'll be sparkling and ready for everyone to enjoy.

We can't wait to welcome you in for a swim!

The Shire is proud to work with Wunan Foundation and Royal Life Saving Society WA to support the Talent Pool Academy, helping create meaningful employment pathways for young people across the East Kimberley.

Through hands-on training and employment opportunities at our facility, participants are gaining valuable skills, qualifications and confidence as they take their first steps into the workforce. We look forward to seeing these young people continue to grow and succeed in their careers!

Opening pathways into employment for young people across the East Kimberley 💦🥽

Wunan’s Talent Pool Academy supports young people to build confidence, skills and real-world experience through paid work, training and on-the-job opportunities. Delivered in partnership with Royal Life Saving WA, the program focuses on creating pathways into meaningful employment while supporting local workforce needs.

Throughout 2025, young people engaged strongly across training and employment, supported by a program that prioritises practical skills and long-term opportunity.

In 2025 to 2026, the Talent Pool Academy delivered:

- Engagement with 39 young people
- 10 participants employed as pool attendants at SWEK
- Employment opportunities across the region, including lifeguards, remote pool staff and youth officers
- Pathways into further work experience and roles with local organisations
- 22 first aid certificates and 10 pool lifeguard qualifications

This is about creating real opportunities, building confidence, and supporting young people to step into the workforce with strong foundations for the future.

The Kununurra Splash Slides will be on:

Week days (School term) 2.30pm - 4pm
Week days (School holidays) 10am - 12pm & 2.30pm - 4pm
Weekends 10am - 12pm & 2.30pm - 4pm

The Shire advises that the Kununurra Leisure Centre will be closed on Monday 1st June for WA Day.

Member access to our 24/7 Gym will be available.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Kununurra Splash Park is closed until further notice.

A key piece of equipment has experienced a mechanical failure, and we are currently awaiting further advice regarding repair or replacement options.

The Shire wishes to advise that the Kununurra Leisure Centre, including the 24/7 Gym, indoor courts and Splash Park, will be closed on Thursday, 21 May, from 7:00am to 12:00pm due to works associated with the ongoing redevelopment.
