The Kununurra Bullsharks returned to the NT State Titles this year to compete in the U18 Mixed competition and what a journey it’s been.
Last year, they showed up simply to experience playing against kids their own age. They gained confidence, played with heart… but didn’t come away with a win. Not once did that discourage them, if anything, it lit a fire.
Fast forward to this year
These legends, who spend most Monday nights playing against 40-year-olds (their words, not ours 😆) came in with one goal: win a game.
Instead? They went undefeated in the pool rounds, 5 from 5. 💪
Training most Sunday afternoons under the guidance of Tomiets Kabilu, this group has shown what dedication, teamwork, and grit can achieve.
The semi-final was an absolute nail-biter. Those in Kununurra might’ve heard some very loud Lakeside families yelling at their TVs… trust us, it was just as stressful in person!
Unfortunately, we went down in overtime, but wow, what a game.
Huge congratulations to the Dolphins on the semi-final win, and to the Darwin Crocs for taking out the grand final.
A special mention to Meli Angus thank you for guiding this group last year and sharing your passion for the sport. These kids played the semi-final for you. RIP brother ❤️
Big thank you as well to Rhodes, Lane and Sawa for all of your support.
We couldn’t be prouder of this group of Kununurra kids. The growth, the effort, the passion. It’s been incredible to watch.
Bring on next year 🔥
And a big thank you to Touch Football NT for including us, we loved every minute.
