🇫🇷🐉 88 DAYS TO GO! 🐉🇫🇷

Today the Coastal Breast Friends crew swapped countdown calendars for paddles as we came together on the beautiful Maroochy River for a training paddle and morning tea.

With paddlers from clubs across Queensland joining forces for the IBCPC Festival in the French Alps, every paddle brings us one step closer to the adventure of a lifetime.

There were plenty of smiles, plenty of laughs, a few discussions about packing (already!), and just enough hard work on the water! 🚣‍♀️💪

The countdown is officially on…

🇫🇷 88 days
💜 One unforgettable adventure

It wasn’t just 33km of paddling … it was 33km of magical moments. ✨🐉

Morning tea tucked into the mangroves.

The Glasshouse Mountains showing off in the distance.

Spotting a sea turtle popping up beside the boat. 🐢

Turning our dragon boat into a floating disco party thanks to the onboard DJ (although clearly we now need a glitter ball 🪩😂).

Somewhere between the laughter, snacks and paddle strokes, there were chats about upcoming adventures too — France for the IBCPC festival and Monster the Loch in Scotland. Because apparently paddling 33km wasn’t enough craziness for this crew. 😉

And then finishing the “race” rafted up with our DAA sisters … the smiles went for miles as we crossed the finish line together.

These are the moments that stay with you long after the sore muscles fade — friendship, connection, shared adventures and the simple joy of being out on the water together.

What a day. 💙💜💗💛

33km. One beautiful waterway. Endless laughs, grit and friendship. 💙🐉

Today nine members of our SCDA Mavericks crew took on the stunning EnduroQuest paddle through the beautiful Pumicestone Passage in a crew with our friends from Dragons Abreast Pumicestone and Dragon Boat Pumicestone.

There was smiles and singing, plenty of determination, a few competitive crews racing for the finish line … and then something that perfectly captured what this sport is really about.

At the finish, we rafted up together with our sisters from Dragons Abreast Adelaide to celebrate the achievement, the teamwork and the incredible spirit of the dragon boat community. ❤️

33km is no small feat, but sharing it with friends on the water made every kilometre worth it.

Huge congratulations to every paddler, sweep, supporter and volunteer who helped make the day so special. The Passage turned on the magic for us today. ☀️🌊

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums, grandmothers, step-mums, bonus mums, fur-mums and mother figures in our SCDA Mavericks family and community 💕🐉

Today we celebrate the women who cheer us on, hold us together, feed us after training, remind us where we left our drink bottle… and somehow still make it to the regatta on time.

We also know today can feel a little heavy for some.

Sending extra love to those missing their mums, those who never got the chance to become mums, those navigating difficult relationships, and those carrying quiet heartaches today.

Whether your Mother’s Day is filled with laughter, memories, chaos, hugs, tears, pavlova, champagne, coffee, dragon boating… or all of the above - we hope you feel surrounded by love today 💗

From all of us at SCDA Mavericks 💛

Just when we thought our Wednesday evening training couldn’t get any more magical… the sky decided to join in 🐉✨

Out on the water, with the sun disappearing and paddles finding their rhythm, we looked up to spot a cloud drifting above us… shaped just like a dragon. Safe to say, we took it as a pretty good omen.

Maybe it was a sign of strength.
Maybe it was a reminder of why we love this sport.
Or maybe… just maybe… our dragon spirit is getting a little too big to stay in the boat 😉

Either way, we’ll take it.

Evening paddles, good company, and a dragon watching over us — not a bad way to spend a Wednesday night 💛

Today we pause for ANZAC Day — a moment that asks us not just to remember, but to truly reflect.

We remember those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who never made it home. We think of the courage it took to step into the unknown, the mateship that carried them through, and the resilience shown in the face of unimaginable hardship.

But ANZAC Day is also about what they left behind for us - a legacy of strength, unity, and looking out for one another. Values that still matter deeply today.

Whether it’s at a dawn service, a quiet moment, or sharing a story with family, we each find our own way to honour that legacy.

Lest we forget.

Not every paddle is about speed… sometimes it’s about showing up 💛

A small (and slightly weary!) crew hit the water for a recovery session after an incredible AusChamps campaign. Tired bodies, but full hearts.

We were lucky to be joined by Dragons Abreast Australia board member Annie, visiting from Illawarra — always special to share the boat with our wider dragon boat family 🐉

And in true SCDA Mavericks style… Coach Tara introduced a new visualisation technique. Let’s just say - if the bin collectors of the Sunshine Coast felt a sudden drop in job security this morning… you’re welcome 😜🚛

Recovery paddles, connection, and a good dose of humour … just how we like it.
