Perisher XC

Perisher XC Perisher XC is about supporting and growing the XC skiing community within Perisher and beyond. XC skiing is either done on groomed trails or un-groomed snow.

Cross country (XC) skiing can be the ultimate way to gain peak fitness and enjoy the adrenalin of pushing hard up the hills, skiing fast on the flats and pushing personal limits on the downhills. To others it is a peaceful way to enjoy the beauty of the natural landscape, exercising with low impact to the body and the environment. XC is a versatile sport that appeals to everyone from young families, to those in their senior years, to the super fit aspiring to the Olympics. This sport provides as much, or as little, challenge as you would like. To find out more about XC skiing and the opportunities available, click here to take you to the Discover XC Website. "Groomed" means that a snow groomer similar to the machines used on the downhill slopes is used to pack and shape the trail. Click here to see an XC grooming machine in action. "Un-groomed" means just that - no mechanical packing of the snow has taken place and the first tracks just might be yours. XC Skiing is great whether you are on groomed trails or skiing further afield. Ski touring and back country skiing are ideal ways to get out in the wilderness (even if it is just over the hill from the parking lot or your lodge). Here is some information describing more about this form of XC skiing. The appeal to many is the lack of queues, the ability to get away from it all and, increasingly, affordability - no trail fees. The Perisher Cross Country Centre is also ideally situated as it is within close walking distance from fresh coffee, fine food, and great shops just across the road within the Perisher Village. The cross country community is a diverse, friendly and down to earth group of people who appreciate opportunities to get out there, expending energy to reap the rewards of enjoying the views, the natural high plains environment and the extraordinary feeling of skiing well - going as fast and as far as you like.

It may not have been a great ski season, but we sure did have a great celebration at/in the end.

Here are some pictures from the XC Ball that was held at the Jindabyne Brewery on the 5th of September. This being a hugely significant event by anyone’s measure. The Cross-Country Ball, was a huge success, with 110 guests coming together to celebrate Australian Cross Country Skiing, the National Team and the remarkable community behind the sport. Importantly, the event also raised nearly $10k towards athlete expenses at the World Championships in 2027.

Aleisha Dasilva was the main driver of the event, with assistance from Katie Brown. Aleisha has written a great article about the event, thanking our generous sponsors, telling us about the highlights and more. Cross Country Ball Venue Update – Moving to Jindabyne Brewery

We have some important news about the Snow Australia Cross Country Ball on Saturday 5th September.

The Ball will now be held at Jindabyne Brewery!

Unfortunately, by COB last Friday we hadn't met the minimum numbers required to hold the event at Tinkersfield. Luckily, Karl and the wonderful team at the Jindabyne Brewery have stepped in at short notice and are delighted to host us. Already before this change, Shut The Gate Winery and Jindabyne Brewery were generously sponsoring the Ball. Now they have upped the ante, closing the entire venue to the public for the evening and allowing us to welcome even more people to what we hope will be a fantastic community celebration.

With this change, the ticket price is also coming down to $95 per head. For everyone who has already purchased a ticket, you have the option to receive a partial refund for the difference in ticket price. Alternatively, you can also choose to donate that difference directly to the National Cross Country Team. Any additional funds donated would be extremely gratefully received and will go directly towards supporting our athletes and their international racing campaigns, which is what the event is all about.

Over the weekend tickets continued to sell at the original price, and we are now nearing capacity at the Brewery. Any existing ticket holders who were hoping to buy more should reach out via email to [email protected]. For partial refunds, please reach out via the same email.

Don't forget, the AUSXC silent auction is also running this week; put in your bids to score some fabulous items! Click on https://www.myminiauction.com/ausxc More auction products will be added in the coming days, so keep checking in.

Many thanks everyone for your support! More than anything, we want this evening to be a celebration of our amazing local community — our athletes, families, volunteers, local businesses, sponsors and all the people who get behind snow sports and make this community so special.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of snow and weather forecast for Saturday, the SMN Family Cup has been cancelled for 2026.

In good news, you get an additional 12 months to plan for next year's event - in 2027 costumes will be sensational!

Interschools was on yesterday, where 100's of kids were competing, 200,300 or 400 kids, too many to count.

NSWACT XC, headed up by Peter Ward ran this huge event, on what might be the last bit of continuous snow, up behind Valhalla. It did not matter that the lap length was only 500 m in length, there was hills and spills and all that was needed so that both the fittest and the ones with the best technique won.

Again, a huge thanks to all the volunteers that assisted in running the event plus the good work done by the groomer 4- Site for making a safe track to ski on.

Looking for more photos to put up, so if you have some, send them to [email protected]

These photos compliments of Harriet Greville and Nicola Wunderlich.
