The Steel Challenge Club Championship was a spectacular event, featuring 31 enthusiastic competitors across three divisions. Rimfire once again demonstrated why it is the premier category at APSC, filling an impressive 28 slots! Considering that several regulars were missing in action, it really makes you wonder just how massive this event could have been with a full roster.

The day was filled with blazing fast times and intense competition. Many new competitors joined in, adding to the excitement and enjoying the festival of speed despite the ever-changing weather conditions.

In the RFPO division, we witnessed a record number of competitors battling it out for supremacy. Chris H emerged victorious, with Marcus T securing 2nd place and Jason W finishing in 3rd. The competition was so tight that just 1.7 seconds separated the top three competitors! A special shout out to Michael C and Andrew C, who set impressive times despite being rookies. Their performance was truly commendable!

The RFPI division saw a large contingent of iron sight shooters putting on a fantastic show. Kevin T took the top spot, with Andy G coming in 2nd and Alan F securing the 3rd position on the podium. It was wonderful to see our rookie shooters, including Ashden P, George Z, Rossalyn B, and Brad P, making their presence felt. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table in the next round.

Although the PROD division had a quieter turnout, it did not dampen the speed or enthusiasm of the competitors. Stephen E claimed the win, with Shiva S finishing in 2nd place and Grant B rounding out the top three. The energy and passion displayed by the competitors were truly inspiring.

A heartfelt thank you to all the competitors for making this the largest attended club championship we have ever had! I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed by painting, scoring, and serving as Range Officers (ROs) over the weekend. Without your dedication and hard work, we could not have had such a fun and well-organized championship round.

I can't wait for the next round in March! Be sure to keep an eye on your emails and Facebook for all the details. Let's make the next event even bigger and better! 🏆📧

Round 2 of the Steel Challenge Club Championships has wrapped up, and what an electrifying event it was! With 26 competitors braving the intense 37-degree heat and gusty winds, it was a true test of grit and determination. And let’s not forget the relentless flies that added an extra layer of challenge (and protein)!

But the heat wasn’t the only thing sizzling; competitors posted blazing fast times across all classes, with many smashing their personal bests.

RFPO: Jason W clinched victory over Marcus T by a razor-thin margin of just 0.51 seconds, with Chris H taking 3rd. These three are now tied for 1st place after two rounds, setting the stage for an epic showdown for the top spot!

RFPI: Steels very own Vice Captain Andrew G triumphed over Kevin T, with Slavica R making a strong return after injury to secure 3rd place. The overall standings have last year’s top contenders, Kevin T and Alan F, battling it out for honours once again. If the first two rounds are any indication, the final round will be a nail-biter!

Production: Steven E put on a masterclass in the Production class, taking the win, followed by Chris M in 2nd and Rhys A in 3rd. Steven leads the championship, with Rhys in 2nd and newcomer Grant B in 3rd. What a performance!

Production Optics: Despite the low numbers, the competition was fierce. Paul N took the win over Sean S. The overall standings are incredibly tight, with Paul B, Paul N, and Sean S all tied for 1st. This battle is going to be one for the ages!

OSR: Glenn S wowed everyone with his incredible times, taking the win and outpacing the Production Optics class. What a show!

ISR: Chris Mc’s win was nothing short of spectacular, setting personal bests and mastering the Jerry Miculek revolver. Bravo!

The Championship table is currently showing the standings before dropping each competitor’s worst round. This exciting adjustment will be made after the 5th round, and it could really shake up the rankings! Stay tuned for some thrilling changes!

As we head into the summer break, I want to give a huge shoutout to all the competitors, range officers, scorers, target painters, and everyone who helped make the first two rounds a roaring success. A special thanks to our Club Secretary, Phil W, for organizing the much-needed chilled water jug. It was a lifesaver!

Mark your calendars: Round 3 kicks off on February 15, 2025, when the rivalries resume!

If you want to join in and ring some steel, we have club days every Saturday starting at 9 am. Come on down and give it a go! 🎯🏆
