🌟 A HUGE thank you to the Kojonup Community! 🌟

I kicked off Active Farmers here in May, and after 7 amazing months of sessions on Friday mornings at 6:00 am and 9:00 am, we had 42 different members try it out! 🙌

Your support for this great initiative has been incredible, and I’m so grateful to each and every one of you who joined in. 💚

Looking forward to bringing Active Farmers back in 2025 – stay tuned for updates! If you’d like to be added to the WhatsApp group for all the latest news, feel free to send me a message. 📲

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year! 🎄

The WA Livestock Research Council (WALRC) and partners are inviting the sheep industry to run ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with Blind athlete Ben Pettinghill, who is currently on a mission to run 3249km in 2024 – a kilometre to represent every death by su***de in Australia in 2022. The will take place at the Kojonup Oval at 6.30am on Tuesday June 25 – with an invitation now far and wide encouraging farmers from all over the great southern to get behind Ben in his mission – but also to run along side each other and demonstrate their support for each other during a tough season.

Active Farmers have just volunteered to run the ‘warm up’ – at 6.15am that morning – helping the organisers achieve their target of a couple of hundred plus farmers and industry people at the oval getting ready to do laps with Ben and his amputee mate Mike (who is bringing his blades for the occasion and taking up the rear with those who’d rather run slow or walk). Ben will run onto the oval at circa 6.35am – and the call out is to as many industry people as possible to do laps with Ben to help him hit his daily kilometre target – ahead of a complimentary post-run/walk breakfast.

Ben and Mike are the finale speakers at the Livestock Matters program being held at Lynley Anderson’s farm north west of Kojonup that day (see attached program) – in a day that is focused on making good decisions around the future of sheep, but also acknowledging that the season is bringing about its challenges. Ben and Mike’s primary message is that talking about tough things is critical when the morale is low.

The organisers would love to see as many Active Farmer groups come to Kojonup for the run - and stay on and do the day at Lynley’s if you can.

Bookings for the run are essential for the breakfast caterers = so if you’re planning on coming – please rsvp here at www.walrc.com.au/events/
