Following lunch on Saturday, we unveiled the long awaited "Big Surprise" when all present for the end-of-season assembled in front of the clubhouse. With a beeping of a car horn, what came around the corner but a brand-new start boat!
KBSC has been raising funds through the Australian Sports Foundation for a long time, with the Junior Committee doing their part by selling brownies each sailing day.
Our long-serving bosun (and previous AS Tasmanian Volunteer of the Year) Michael Bird, his wife Carolyn, and their kids (Loki and Pippa) have very generously underwritten the cost of the new boat. The name was unveiled and has been christened the "Michael Bird", with Carloyn doing the honours with a spray of "Bird in Hand" bubbly and a wonderful speech on behalf of Michael and the family.
This generous donation has set KBSC up for many years of service as a rescue boat, and everyone at the club is truly grateful for the times to come that it will help keep sailors safe on the water.
The KBSC Committee has also announced they are nominating two members for life membership who are both retiring from the committee:
- Michael Bird for his years of service as bosun, helping to keep equipment running and rescue boats afloat.
- Malcolm McAully for the years of service as treasurer, helping the committee make sure the club stays afloat financially.
These nominations will be ratified at the AGM.
