Update on Tassie 23 and Senior Men (SM)

We currently have the minimum Tasmanian players and a goalie for each of these teams.
We are now calling for Expression of Interest from eligible interstate players who can provide evidence of clearance from their home state to build up full teams for our 23s and SM

We’re excited to announce our 2026 Veterans and Over 50s teams following a thorough selection process. Please join us in congratulating all players selected in these divisions!

We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience while the committee awaited final confirmation from players before making these announcements.

Unfortunately, we were unable to form viable teams in the following divisions this year:
Under 11s
Under 13s
Under 15s
Under 17s
Junior Women
Senior Women
Masters

We are continuing to work hard to provide an update on the Under 23s and Senior Men's divisions as soon as possible.

We would also like to thank every player who tried out for the divisions that could not be formed this year. We will continue to support and assist any athletes who are interested in exploring opportunities to play with other states.

Finally, thank you to all athletes, families, volunteers, and supporters for your ongoing commitment and support of Inline Hockey Tasmania. Your dedication is greatly appreciated and plays a vital role in the continued growth of our sport.

ILHT Community Update & National Championship Sanctions Changes

Following our announcement of squads for viable Nationals teams last week we want to
provide our inline hockey community with a brief update regarding the proposed
National Championship sanction changes.
Inline Hockey Tasmania, this week, was provided with a snapshot of two new proposed rules from the NTC.

These related to players only playing for one state and eligibility of international players.

The ILHT Committee have formally provided feedback to both the National Technical
Committee (NTC) and Skate Australia outlining our concerns about the proposed
changes and their potential impact on participation, player pathways and teams for
smaller states.

Since then, we know at least two other states have followed our lead and also
responded to the NTC and Skate Australia with their own feedback. Their responses are
well aligned with ours, especially around lack of consultation, as well as covering some
of their own specific issues and concerns. We have also had feedback from interstate
players and families looking for opportunities to join Tasmanian teams raising their
concerns.

At this stage, we understand the proposed sanctions changes for 2026 Nationals have
been approved by NTC , but not approved by Skate Australia. We understand that Skate
Australia is continuing to review the proposed changes before any final decision is
made.

This creates some challenges for ILHT, particularly to be clear on what interstate players might be allowed to join Tasmanian teams. Some states are already choosing to apply the proposed “one-state” rule, even though it is not yet approved by Skate Australia.
This impacts our ability to determine if some remaining teams will be viable for us.

In the meantime, the Inline Hockey Tasmania Committee is now meeting regularly to
review team nominations, player availability, interstate expressions of interest, and a
range of possible scenarios so that we are as prepared as possible once the final
sanctions are confirmed or otherwise.

We appreciate everyone's patience during this period of uncertainty. We understand the
delays do impact players and families planning and decisions for travel and
accommodation.

If you have already been named in a squad for Nationals we would
really appreciate you reconfirming your availability for Nationals – or if your situation has now changed and are no longer available.

We will continue to keep our members informed as more information becomes
available.

We are hoping to confirm remaining teams/squads that are viable for Tasmania in the next week.

We’re excited to announce the squads from which our 2026 teams will be selected!

Squad members have now been confirmed, and we are currently in the process of finalising team selections from each squad.
Our goal is to have teams announced by 4 July 2026; however, this is subject to the release of the 2026 Skate Australia Championship document, which we are still awaiting.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this final stage.

Our Under 9s team has already been announced, with the coach still to be confirmed

Veterans
Over 50s.

Teams for each division will be selected from their relevant squad, and in some cases may still need the addition of players from interstate.

NATIONALS TEAM SELECTION UPDATE

Nationals tryouts have now been completed and the team selection process is underway.

The Inline Hockey Tasmania Committee is currently assessing player numbers, team composition and overall team viability across all divisions.

At this stage, we can confirm the following teams are currently viable:

• Under 9
• Senior Women
• Veterans
• Over 50

Unfortunately, we are unable to form viable teams in:

• Under 11
• Under 13
• Masters

Several divisions remain under review.

Following the 2025 National Championships, Skate Australia asked the National Technical Committee to review and update the National Championships player eligibility, sanctions and team composition rules following feedback received from players, parents, officials and member states.

Proposed changes are currently awaiting final ratification by Skate Australia.

These proposed changes may affect both player eligibility and the ability for states to include interstate players when local numbers are limited. As a result, they may impact the viability of some Tasmanian teams, as well as teams from other states with smaller player populations.

Historically, interstate players have helped Tasmania and other states fill gaps where local player numbers alone were insufficient to form complete teams. The proposed changes may alter both who is eligible to play for another state and the minimum number of local players required before interstate players can be included within a team.

For this reason, some team selections and viability assessments cannot be finalised until the final rules are confirmed.

Team viability is also about more than simply meeting minimum player numbers. We need to ensure teams have sufficient depth to compete effectively throughout the tournament and provide players with a positive Nationals experience.

Our priority is to provide as many opportunities as possible for Tasmanian players while ensuring teams can proudly represent Tasmania at Nationals.

If you are in one of the divisions still under review and are considering nominating, returning to play, or making yourself available for Nationals, now is the time to reach out. Every player matters when assessing team viability, and additional interest may influence the ability to field a team in some divisions.

We appreciate everyone's patience and will provide a further update once the Nationals rules have been finalised and team assessments are complete.

If you need to pay cash, please see Chantelle Adams or Scott Beck (for Hobart tryouts) and Alice Murphy or India Atkins (for Launceston tryouts) to make the payment on the day prior to gearing up.

Please note, you cannot be on the rink in any capacity during tryouts if you are not an Inline Hockey Tas member.
