The Kinglake Pony Club invites past, current and future members, as well as members of the local community to engage in an important discussion about the future of the Kinglake pony club and the prospect of local horse-riding opportunities in the Kinglake region.
Kinglake Pony Club has been an important part of the community for many decades, providing local children and families with opportunities to develop riding skills, horsemanship, sportsmanship and lifelong friendships. The Kinglake Pony Club has a rich history dating back to the 1960s. It originally was known as Preston and District Pony club and moved several times, eventually finding its home in the Kinglake Ranges at the Trust Reserve since 1990s. The club has a history of strong community spirit and can-do attitude, seeing it through urban sprawl, Black Saturday and Covid years. The club has provided horse riding education and fun to many young horse riders across generations.
However, the Kinglake Pony Club is currently struggling to attract and retain members with just two families remaining to run this important club. Memberships and support have declined dramatically this year making the clubs future uncertain.
The purpose of these meetings is two-fold.
1. To identify potential members and supporters within the community to help rebuild the club.
2. To seek input on the options for the future of the club for the current standing committee to vote on.
The current options are as follows.
A. Find additional members and supporters who are willing to continue running the Pony Club.
B. To work with another club to lessen the burden of current small number of families.
C. Formally close the club, forcing members and future members to join other clubs outside of the Kinglake area.
There may be other options available, and we are interested in your ideas and suggestions.
Please join us to have your say if you have interest in seeing this community sports club continue to survive and thrive for future generations in the Kinglake Ranges area.
