Huge week on Somerset and Wivenhoe with some XOS Australian Bass caught by our customers.

It’s the time of the year that the big ones are about a lot more and they’re at their biggest around this time because of spawn.

After the spawn is done they get hungry and spring time temperatures fire them up even more.

We’re booked up until mid October but if you want to get in early for October and November I’d recommend to book ASAP to have a shot at one of these giants.

Beau Everleigh joined me for a full day on Cressbrook to learn the finer points of fishing for bass in Winter. I showed him a number of techniques and how to fish them correctly as well as where to look and why.

We caught a number of cracking bass and Beau finished the day with this great Yellow Belly.

Was great to share some knowledge to another fellow tournament angler.

Cam and Locky joined me for a half day on Somerset this afternoon and wanted to learn how to fish it properly.

Locky hadn’t ever caught a bass before but his first ever fish was a 55cm giant.

The boys both caught some nice fish and have a really good understanding of where to go now and what to look for.

Talk about a great start to your Bass fishing journey!

Ken Lovegrove with a stonker of a Yellowbelly from BP dam today.

Ken and his wife Glenda wanted to learn about the dam as they’re planning some more fishing in their retirement. I showed them all the good areas to fish the lures to use and how to catch them.

Lex Forbes was all the way up from Victoria and brought along his grandson and his mate.

The weather was pretty ordinary but for some reason Somerset doesn’t fish too bad in these conditions.

Glad we spent the day dodging the rain because the boys caught some cracking fish.

Big yellas and bass were eager and the lads put quite a few in the boat.

Was great teaching them some new techniques with great rewards.

Leon Walker and Beau Rixon joined me for a full day on Lake Somerset. We had fabulous weather and the pair just wanted to pick up some tips on sounding for fish and some technique advice.

Both are very experienced anglers and I didn’t have to talk about the small stuff too much as they both went to work on some great Australian Bass and Yellowbelly.

We did focus on small adjustments in lures and techniques and this day proved that minimal lure movement can really get some great results.

They both caught some cracking fish and had a great day out on the water.

Ian and Oli joined me for a full day on Lake Somerset and we got the best of the weather with a beautiful warm day and great water temps.

The boys wanted to catch some bass and that they sure did!

After some looking around we located an area that held plenty of fish and the boys went to work with their lures and techniques that I ran them through beforehand.

Some great Australian Bass were landed with Ollies 56 tipper that went like a freight train. We even had a few double hookups in the mix as well.

Great work boys was great to see a father and son team put some valuable knowledge to work and reap the rewards.

Robert Eather booked a half day yesterday for his family and wanted to catch a couple of fish and even keep a couple for a feed.

They caught 12 between them and kept a couple of 35cm fish to eat. It’s a common misconception that freshwater fish are muddy but that’s certainly not the case in most occasions. Bass, yellowbelly and eel-tail catfish are actually a very good table fish.

We usually practice catch and release but keeping a few for a feed is always an option too.

Neville Slapp joined me for a day on Bjelke-Petersen dam and boy did he get a real treat.

Nev wanted to learn how to target Bass and Perch with lures so I showed him how to find them and ultimately get some in the boat.

He picked it up quick and put his new knowledge to work, soon he had Bass coming in quick and fast. He also got himself a nice Perch among the Bass.

At the end of the session he caught 20 or more very fat Bass and the perch to round it out.

A great day for Nev and a whole new outlook for him next time he goes fishing on the freshwater.

We’re back and we’ve got some dates available in July for anyone keen to learn lots more about our freshwater lakes in South East QLD.

Lyndsey and Jason got the most out of a half day on Lake Boondooma recently. The water has been quite dirty for a while now but there’s still some nice fish to be caught if you use the right lures and know where to look.

The perch are still about in good numbers and are quite active despite the cold and dirty water.

Heaps of great options out there in all of your local dams all you have to do is book in and we’ll teach you a ton of great information to catch more fish no matter the season.
